Hello There! My name is Jackson. I'm a writer and narrative designer for video games. I'll be posting updates here about the cool stuff I'm working on, interspersed with stupid opinions no-one asked for and bad attempts at comedy. 🙂
Watching Kai cenat’s reading arc has been a bright spot in the rather depressing news we’ve been showered with in the past two weeks. It makes me want to start reading more too, I’ve been neglecting that these past few years.

Human brains feed off of negativity. Negative thoughts are easily digested and play in a loop in your mind all of the time. The reality, however, is that there is also A LOT OF GOOD happening every single minute. You have to do more work to pay attention to the good but it's worth it.

I’ve been thinking recently about the delicate balance Andor managed to strike: not being reverent of its source material to the point of blindness, but not being ashamed of that source material either.

the people accusing anyone mentioning Maduro might not be a great dude of distracting from the real issue seem to not realize they could end that conversation by just acknowledging he’s no saint and moving on instead of getting incensed at anyone who does.

I’m exhausted by the militant opposition to acknowledging “maduro is a bad dude but that in no way justifies any of this” I’ve seen all over sky today. I understand the desire to not give any space for justification but that pendulum swings both ways and the tankies are already emerging to glaze him

And that's not even to say we have to make anti-war art, that our art needs to be a political statement for the moment.

Art is anti-war by its nature. It's creation. It's what we do when we're safe enough to dream, and even when we're so unsafe that it's the only thing we *can* do.

People are finally realizing Somaliland exists but not for the reason I’d hoped. Let’s be clear: They are getting chummy with Israel because they are desperate for someone to finally acknowledge them, not because they’re an “imperialist puppet” or whatever else people have been saying.

Heading into 2026, I'm still looking for fulltime or contract work as a senior writer or narrative designer. If you need someone who can write sharp characters, poetic prose, and emotional stories, I'm available! You can find my portfolio here: www.hazelmonforton.com

I think the escapist baselessly accusing blue prince of using gen ai is a perfect example of the results of game journalism being completely gutted over the past several years. No outlet with a modicum of proper editorial control would have run that story.

The anger at Larian is completely understandable but anyone saying they’ve burnt all goodwill or destroyed their reputation is either hopelessly optimistic or terminally online. The people currently shouting at them are a fraction of a percent of BG3’s sales.

I think the most important lesson game devs need to take from the current chaos is to not sell out, no matter how much blood money they offer. we need a network of private and co-op owned studios unbeholden to shareholders and conglomerates. Vampires cannot enter your home unless you invite them in.

The ideology that was sold to tech workers by tech owners was that the workers were not like other workers, that they were very special boys who were entitled to high salaries and cushy perks due to the STEMy brilliance required to do their job. Easy to see the lie now that it's falling apart.

This Warner bros acquisition will probably fuck up the film/tv and game industries even more than they already are currently. The current FTC is extremely corpo-friendly but hopefully there’s enough pressure from other studios and theatre chains for some semblance of an antitrust investigation.

Look, I agree TGA is flawed and has LOTS of problems, but some of you talk about Geoff like he murdered your loved ones in front of you, and I think you should take a step back and reconsider where you’re investing your energy.

The issue of sexual violence was paraded in the most propagandist and crass manner by the Israeli government and supporters of its genocidal campaign. It was denied in the most crass and propagandist manner by Hamas apologists.

I think as a society we need to start showing more gratitude to fake academics. They are, without exception, some of the most unintentionally funny deranged weirdos out there. Pick one, start reading about their crackpot theories, and it’s just absolute gold all the way down.

This EA buyout is interesting. Private equity involved so my first assumption would be that they want to strip the company for parts. On the other hand, the Saudis are involved and seem to be really pushing to extend soft power via games and esports (to be clear there will be layoffs no matter what)
