The most enraging example of this was what the Dems did the day Roe was overturned. From my book THE LAST AMERICAN ROAD TRIP:

I gave him a small, regretful smile and took a deep breath of the Verne's earthy-sweet air, filled again with the thick scent of wet loam and blooming grapes. Despite my bluster, this was the only home I'd ever known, and it was true that I might never see this place again. There was a part of me that didn't want to go, and his puppy-eyed appeal wasn't helping.

More importantly, I could feel the pull of the Root on my feet, selfish and sprawling through the ground. My ankles felt numb, their nerves frozen. Vedjra was waking up to my intentions, and she did not like for us to go too far away from her.

I had to leave, now. The Goddess wouldn't forgive me for going, but only if I managed to get away first. I wasn't willing to let her change my mind.

currently at record-high search interest for canceling disney plus. pulling kimmel is a bigger deal to the company's bottom line than any of the "woke" scandals of the past 5 years. i think news & entertainment corp execs need put more work into understanding their audience, & get off twitter

I am just going to keep posting that the TX governor recently pardoned a political murderer.

The dude texted "I'm going to shoot protestors", then went and shot a Black Lives Matter protester. He was convicted in a jury trial.

Hard to find a more blatant example of celebrating political violence.
Gov. Greg Abbott pardons Daniel Perry, veteran who killed police brutality protester in 2020
A Travis County jury sentenced Perry to 25 years in prison last year, prompting Abbott to ask the state parole board to review his case.

Stop complying in advance.

1. Trump threatened every hospital that provides gender affirming care to transgender youth.

Many complied and shut down their programs.

Boston Children's Hospital didn't. They fought back and kept providing care.

And now, they just beat Trump in court.

🧵 I’ve been hearing about a lot of indie authors feeling discouraged because of a lack of sales, no reviews, or a decline in readers. Some are even quitting. I feel it. I’m in the same boat. My posts about my books go to social media to die. 1/

I know it sounds kind of weird, but it's a thing! I've heard of lemon juice or honey citron being used in places as well, though more common internationally. I usually put just a splash if I do it but it's pretty good!

#WIPSnips Sept 4: "coffee"

For how much coffee I drink, it's rarely actually in my fiction? But there's a mention in the opening of this short story I've been kicking around revising :)

Meet Alecto, enjoyer of orange juice coffee and retired Greek Fury.

#writesky #writingcommunity #writingprompts
The taste of coffee and orange juice unrolls across her tongue, an intertwining play of bitterness and sweet fruit almost reminiscent of deep cocoa.

It's been months since she last had actual chocolate. She tries not to keep it in the house these days. People always say it's a passionate flavor, an aphrodisiac. But when the bitter warmth spreads in her stomach, she finds it more reminiscent of other feelings — hotter, darker.

Feelings like fury.

We’ve been fundraising since February, and we’re not stopping now. If we don’t reach £5,000, we’ll be forced to reduce the prize money. That’s not what we want. If you care about well-funded, fee-free poetry awards, now is the time to act. 🔗

I got worn down eventually too, and I don't regret it in a virginity sense exactly, but it still hurts in an "I let someone trample my boundaries" way, so I get it. It's still a loss. But I'm so sorry that happened to you, and hope the poem helped even a little 💜

Let's pay human translators in Africa to translate books from non-colonial African languages into English!

You can donate money or a small creation, buy from the ko-fi shop, and all the money gets to the African press who's going to publish the book.

https://ko-fi.com/africantranslationproject
A book opens to blooming flowers. Text reads, \"The African Translation Project. Donate money or a flash-scope creative piece to raise fund for global fiction and African voices\", followed by the URL the post links to. The graphics is in the colors of the South African flag, which are black, green, red, yellow and white.

#WIPSnips Aug 27: "stand"

Amity meets the Flowing Lord.

The first thing I understood was that the river before me was not the one I had followed to the temple. For that matter, I was no longer in the temple at all, it seemed; I found myself now standing thigh-deep in an unfamiliar water, staring into a current that seemed surrounded by a pure emptiness of white.

The second thing I understood, though I did not know how, was that this river itself was the Flowing Lord.

"You have come to wish harm upon me."

Someone on Twitter asked how to keep from falling into doomerism; I have the answer:

Study history. Study revolutions. Organize your community. Engage in mutual aid. Understand that things will get worse before better. We must have REVOLUTIONARY OPTIMISM and know that it’s better on the other side.

You don't need to read Lovecraft or Poe to enjoy horror.
You don't need to read Asimov or Heinlein to enjoy sci-fi.
You don't need to read Tolkien or Howard to enjoy fantasy.
You don't need to read those people to write those genres either.
Know your genre, sure. But there's no required reading.
