At an old gig, we used to search recipe reviews for "hubby" and jokingly treated "the hubby" like it was an animal we were cataloging the zoological features of, e.g., "The hubby does not enjoy nutmeg." "The hubby struggles to find large enough portions in the wild." etc, etc.

This is like how you can find all the funniest Yelp reviews by searching “rude to my fiancée”

I feel like creating a bluesky feed of posts with comments containing “Are you stupid?” would spit out a lot of bangers.

It'd be like Alex Warren, and he'd have to sing Ordinary like three times to pad out the set

These school streets programs are such a great way for a handful of volunteers to help kids get a better start to their day! The parents putting it on here are doing it for two weeks this year and people are still asking for more.

Love to see it!

This South Side Weekly report on the Chicago building raid is well worth reading. Most striking to me are the indications of collusion between federal authorities and the building owner and management to effect a mass eviction at the blighted property. southsideweekly.com/federal-agen...

Things that ought to exist:
1. A database of this administration's crimes
2. A scorecard for each official who could address those crimes right now, showing to what extent they're doing that vs not
3. A PAC to endorse/fund candidates committed to addressing those crimes

I guess I shouldn't be *surprised* but it is making my head spin that the feds have shot two people, with live rounds, killing one of them, in Chicagoland in recent weeks, and in both cases they were very clearly found to be lying about what happened, and essentially nothing is happening about it.

Here in Chicago I even see it on signs that you SHOULD obey in advance.
A homemade “do not obey in advance” sign attached to an overpass height sign.

A recommendation that stuck with me, and I could barely put it down (read as a hybrid of text and audio, so also “didn’t want to stop listening,” haha). The format is inventive and all of the threads weave together beautifully to tell the story. I don’t recommend much myself, but I loved this one.

I found out about it AFTER it got nominated for the LeGuin, but this is a quietly incredible book. Non-linear narrative with bold formal choices. Alternate histories, fascinating futures including the relationships people form with AI. Gorgeous style and a really different approach to sci-fi.

Common Council (6:30 Tue)

- Capital budget amendments, most of which are targeted for later years, not 2026. The 2026 expenditures would include a signal at SW path and W Wash, and lighting on the adjacent path segments

- Street tree protection ordinance
