We need a pithy word for “willfully ignorant” that doesn’t relate to intelligence. This is often what people mean by “dumb” or “stupid” but those aren’t the same thing. There are plenty of “smart” racist assholes who stay that way by carefully protecting their ignorance.
There's people fighting the good fight but it's bad. They're racist assholes absolutely, but they're also so fucking DUMB. No curiosity about the world, no desire to understand how anything works. Media diets of toxic waste. It's impossible to communicate with them if you actually know things...

One of the most insidious qualities of white supremacy is that it cannot be named. White people make it impossible to actually discuss in public spheres. I believe that is the *primary* reason it can't yet be eradicated.
There is no way to reach white people who don't want to listen. When I said societal culture, I didn't mean trying to have individual conversations with people. I mean create an environment where talking about white supremacy and how to end it becomes normalized. That helps recondition people.

You could say "I don't know what's wrong with the ignorant people who voted for this!"

Or you could say "I'm finally ready to acknowledge that I know exactly what's wrong with the ignorant people who voted for this."

I think people underestimate how big this is. Like a city-wide strike is not something that has happened in the US for nearly 100 years
there are a bunch of big names on this list, including multiple beard award winners, and some places i never would have guessed in a hundred years (the malt shop?!) and i'm genuinely floored and delighted to see so many participants

One of the big media failures of the past decade is the ongoing search for the deeper side of Trump. There isn't one. His ideology, such as it is, is personalist, transactional, and zero-sum. That's as vain, vulgar, and wrong as you can get. He likes gold shit and applause. There's nothing beneath.

People are being grabbed, sent to Texas, and put through 6+ hour long refugee status “reinterviews.” So far we aren’t aware of anyone who failed. Some even got handed a green card, then dumped onto the streets in Texas and told to find their way home.

What I would say to everyone else is listen to what she says at the end.

"Keep demanding, that we, members of congress, whether we are in the minority or the majority, actually represent you and do more."

Good advice! People should do that! Demand what you want. Not what you think they want.

1. In a major victory, Democrats have managed to get all anti-trans riders stripped from the final appropriations bills.

This includes HHS and Ed, which had the worst provisions in congressional history.

If it passes, it will be a big win for 2026.

The HHS and Education bills once contained the most sweeping anti-trans provisions in congressional history. Now they contain none.

While I was under the weather and couldn't attend the opening, I'm thrilled to have my work noted in this piece from @pulp.aadl.org about the exhibition! If you're in the area, it's worth seeing some of the stunning work on display from our community of Black artists in Washtenaw
Running through February 27 at Riverside Arts Center’s North Gallery, the fourth annual “Black Artist Exhibit,” themed “Embracing Unity Through Art,” celebrates the life of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and honors Black History Month.

Any one of these daily atrocities should result in a full congressional investigation and a disbanding of the agency. The fact that it’s all just shrugged off by those with the power to stop it is a national disgrace.

the synthesis is “the press lied to you and sold you a fake candidate, you should hate them for doing this to you”
Nuanced take: I think it's really important to give *normal citizens* who supported Trump and off-ramp and *professional writers, pundits and politicians* who supported Trump should have to wear it like a scarlet letter for the rest of their lives
This is aggravating, because on the one hand I think it's really important to give fascists an off-ramp and positive reinforcement when they use it...

...on the other hand, FUCK that guy, in particular.

I think on balance it's good that Walz is doing this. And I especially appreciate the explicit reference to compiling evidence for future prosecutions. But Eliot knows this space as well as anyone out there. So these are good things to keep in mind, be aware of, have processes, etc.
Mass filming raises unresolved structural questions: storage, access, verification, metadata preservation, archiving, and chain of custody.

Without trained volunteers, defined workflows, and appropriate tools, large volumes of footage collapse into disorder rather than accountability.
