Hey so I'm just a random human living in a super quiet corner of Bluesky, but here's my sincere take on this past week/decade and how I think I'm gonna survive the long dark tunnel we're currently staring down. Hopefully this thread resonates with some of you!

So I've really enjoyed the first few days of being on this platform. Been reflecting a lot about *gestures vaguely at all the things*.

One of the things I hate about social media today is that it killed what I loved about social media before.

Efficiencies? My mom just waited 3 days (2 of them in the ER) for surgery to repair her shattered leg. The nurses had to watch her lying there & couldn't even feed her because they didn't know when it might be her turn.

Ontarians need to wake up. Doug Ford is destroying all of our public services.

I didn't know anything about her before this morning so I'm not going to suggest she should or shouldn't have that award...just that nothing is as simple as it seems, and that's partly because citizens in the West are largely ignorant to the politics of the rest of the world (it's def true for me)

I mean in one sense, they're sticking it to him because she's a Hispanic woman opposing the socialist authoritarian that they also don't like, so the cognitive dissonance is probably pretty painful.

Honestly I'm just relieved that he didn't win...which is a wild and depressing statement in itself.

I'm not saying she doesn't deserve the prize or that Maduro isn't an authoritarian. But if you spend some time reading about her you'll find she's not exactly an enemy of the US administration lol

Friends before you go posting about the Nobel committee sticking it to Trump, just take a beat & read up on the winner first. There are weird gotcha posts flying across my feed that sound really silly.

Only...she calls Trump a visionary and explicitly said she supports the USA blowing up their "drug dealing" boats. It's really not the swish everyone wants it to be.

I mean, she's friendly with the Trump regime and welcomes their help to "fight the drug cartels" aka force regime change. She calls Trump a visionary. I'm not sure they're really sticking it to him so much as finding someone he can't really be all that mad about.

Also if you bothered to listen to what he says, you'd know that he explicitly states that he's not equating Stalin and Miller's political views. He's talking about commonalities in dictatorial form, which is practiced by authoritarians of all political stripes.

I also want to say that the nurses are angels and I know they're doing their level best to help. None of my ire is directed at them. I know exactly who's to blame for this.

My elderly mom is currently in the hospital, waiting for surgery to repair 2 broken bones in her leg. She's been there 2 days. She can't walk. They can't feed her while she waits, so he's barely eaten *anything* in 48 hours. She has yet to see the doctor.

We don't know one another but I somehow saw the posts about your grandma and I wanted to say that I'm very sorry for your loss. It sounds like she was a formidable lady and that you loved her a lot. I hope she will always be with you when you need her. Take care of yourself.
