ICE told nurses this Minneapolis man “purposefully ran headfirst into a brick wall.”
What actually happened is that they pulled him from a car, beat him so viciously with a steel baton that he had 8 skull fractures, 5 life-threatening brain hemorrhages, and couldn’t remember he had a daughter.

“Temple of Doom” got more flak for its violence, leading to the PG-13 rating, but #RaidersOfTheLostArk has its share of violence and scares for a PG movie. Just like some other intense ‘70s/early ‘80s films that also got away with just a PG rating, like Jaws and Poltergeist. #TCMParty

I have to think the incessant whining, self-pitying portrayal of themselves as being persecuted and refusal of any self-accountability that so many conservative men engage in must be a big turn-off to all kinds of women in all kinds of places. Nothing “masculine” about that.

Nah, the biggest thing missing from this conversation is that most beltway reporters are clearly not only too stupid to understand policy (and much of the rest of their supposed “beat,” frankly) but also too lazy and incurious to learn.
Missing from every conversation like this about this IRA is that absolutely nobody knew what was in it because the President was incapable of selling policy to the public. It's really not the job of the press to do this.
This right here, this exact sentence, is THE problem in American political journalism.

Recently my brother in law explained what gerrymandering was to a coworker and they didn’t believe him because if that were really happening there would be riots in the street
This week I had someone tell me they're not worried about SNAP being cut off because "that's illegal, so it's impossible Trump could do that, so obviously it's just media sensationalism." Another person told me they weren't worried about ICE because "they can't detain you if you're legally here."

I do not think "America always sucked so who cares if the elected President is destroying civic property to replace it with shoddily built palatial compounds, that's not important compared to ICE seizures" is a winning message.
