Aja is probably one of the most perfect albums ever recorded - by anyone, but Katy Lied always brings me back to a simpler time of beaches and seashells and…hope.

I’m not a pro-football follower but I have fun conversations about the Bears w/the gentleman who oversees the lobby of my office building. His name is Russell & I’ve known him for 20 years. “Go Bears!” he says whenever he sees me, knowing I couldn’t care less. Hoping for a Bears win for Russell. 😊 🏈

Beautiful shot of the city.
Tomorrow is the NFL Divisional Playoffs in Chicago. The Bears against the Rams at Soldier Field. Winner is just one more step away from going to the Super Bowl. The city skyline view on Friday night.

ICE's surveillance has shown people just how bad data misuse can get.

But it's not only your medical records or apps; everyday gadgets in your home are tracking more than you realize. Every device is a potential doorway into your life, and right now, that door is wide open.
7 Everyday Devices That Spy on You More Than Help You - X2Y
From fridges to vacuums, everyday devices collect more data about you than you think.

He’s like the North Star in a sea of darkness.
Outside Gracie Mansion. This is his job. But dare I day it he seems genuinely affected and happy to be there. There’s potentially immense power in that.

Seeing Zohran instantly getting a bunch of shit done in like a week makes you realize that politicians could always do that on some level if they wanted it bad enough and very few of them actually do.

“Trump invaded Venezuela, kidnapped its president, stole a bunch of its oil, sold it, and stashed the money in banks in Qatar” is a stone-cold CLASSIC of this genre
The stuff in the GOP bill is some of the clearest ever examples of "if you explain what Republicans are doing in straightforward factual terms an otherwise under-informed normie will think you have entirely lost your mind and can't be trusted"

First they came for our data, but I said nothing, because I am Chuck Schumer.

Then they came for our neighbors, but I said nothing, because I am Chuck Schumer.

Then they came for our cities, so I said something… about affordability & how Trump had a good idea last week… because I am Chuck Schumer.

NEW: I spoke with this bishop, who offered more context for his (entirely unprepared!) remarks.

Turns out other bishops (e.g., in MN) agree with him, and he recalled the moment he told local priests to get their wills in order.

“There was a little gasp,” he said. religionnews.com/2026/01/15/t...

Trump is not omnipotent. He exists within a web of institutions. His authority is not unlimited. It appears that way largely because his allies occupy key places — Congress — that could provide a meaningful check. Important to understand his actual reach and the limits of that reach. (14/14)

It’s going to be quite something when everyone and their brother shows up from Europe to protect and support Greenland, and China and Russia just mock the U.S. from a distance.

We’re not going to recover from the damage he has done in my lifetime.

I give Tony’s marriage six months at the outside.
As bad as the interview with Trump was, the most nauseating part of the show came at the end, when Tony patted himself on the back for his “newsmaking” interviews and told audiences he trusted them to “listen… and decide for yourself.” youtu.be/OyXExakWMZo?...

Defections at the DOJ.

There has been a mass resignation among leaders in the criminal section of the Department of Justice civil rights division over the failure to investigate the Minneapolis ICE shooting.

A new spate of Justice Department officials quit because their section didn't want to probe Renee Good's shooting
At least four leaders of the Civil Rights Division resigned because the section's head, Harmeet Dhillon, decided not to investigate shooting of Renee Good.
