But having co-raised four kids who spent most of their time in an environment that made any attempt at the simplest work extremely difficult (noise, chores, no space available, no help, when not fights) I can see how unequal the chances

I'm French and we are so aware of that that homeworks are actually forbidden in our country (a memorandum dating back to 1956)

It was changed in 1994 et 2009, to specify it is allowed to ask students to learn lessons at home - but nothing more
