We're a month further into the job market - how are things looking? The good news is that the market does seem to have been delayed: ~150 new listings have appeared since my last post. The bad news is that the total is still substantially lower than what it was during the covid dip.

New ad for an open rank position in Psychology at Cornell. That Human Bonding course seems very popular! May be a good fit for a relationship scientist out there. Below is a snippet of the job ad.

... this convergence extends to new linguistic referents and reshapes individuals’ local semantic representations. An elegant demonstration of how meaning is co-constructed in dialogue; definitely making its way into my course materials

Finally had a chance to read this study on conceptual alignment in human communication. Using a clever repeated reference game, it provides quantitative evidence that interaction drives people to converge on a shared, generalizable conceptual space:

Excited to share our new eLife paper from our lab's first Ph.D. graduate, Dr. Justin Campbell! In this paper, Justin explored the effects of direct electrical stimulation to the human amygdala on single-unit activity throughout the brain. We'd love to hear your thoughts!
Human single-neuron activity is modulated by intracranial theta burst stimulation of the basolateral amygdala
Firing rate analyses revealed neurons throughout the hippocampus, amygdala, orbitofrontal cortex, and anterior cingulate cortex in humans that exhibited heterogeneous responses to intracranial theta b...

🧠✨How do we rebuild our memories? In our new study, we show that hippocampal ripples kickstart a coordinated expansion of cortical activity that helps reconstruct past experiences.

We recorded iEEG from patients during memory retrieval... and found something really cool 👇(thread)
