Soudas was Harper's PR mouthpiece, and he's still pumping out Conservative propaganda.

Harper inherited a $13.7 Billion surplus, which he quickly blew through. Then ran a decade of deficits. He then had a fake "balanced" budget ahead of the 2015 elxn by selling off GM stock at a $3.5B loss, taking $2B from the contingency fund, and underfunding Veterans Affairs. #cdnpoli 👇

I'm reminded of the story of a monk who used an adding machine to total up a series of numbers. After finishing, he tore the tape off the machine, took his pencil in hand, and double checked the result.

Yes, this is exactly it... everyone yelling about AI doing something correctly **ALREADY KNOWS HOW TO DO THAT THING AND DO IT WELL** If you never learned how to do the thing, how the hell will you know if the AI output of a thing is in any way correct??? 🤦‍♀️💀

The thing is, to be able to determine whether AI-generated code is “legit”, you need to know both statistics and coding yourself. If we no longer teach students to learn, think, and struggle—without the help of AI—the next generation will have no clue what is and isn’t legit.

Y'all. I just got ChatGPT to do everything in R for this manuscript. I mean EVERYTHING. And it's all legit and reproducible. I'm shook.

How are we mentoring our trainees in statistics now? Who needs to learn coding in R line by line, and who doesn't?

There are still some hotels that provide little bottles of shampoo, bars of soap, etc. They include them in the cost of the room, so it is not stealing to take them with you, used or unused. They are valuable to shelters. Likewise the "loot" bags that dentists' offices give out after a cleaning.

David Simon, creator of ‘The Wire’, being interviewed by Ari Shapiro (NPR)
SHAPIRO: OK, so you've spent your career creating television without Al, and I could imagine today you thinking, boy, I wish I had had that tool to solve those thorny problems...
SIMON: What?
SHAPIRO: ...Or saying...
SIMON: You imagine that?
SHAPIRO: ...Boy, if that had existed, it would have screwed me over.
SIMON: I don't think Al can remotely challenge what writers do at a fundamentally creative level.
SHAPIRO: But if you're trying to transition from scene five to scene six, and you're stuck with that transition, you could imagine plugging that portion of the script into an Al and say, give me 10 ideas for how to transition this.
SIMON: I'd rather put a gun in my mouth.

FUCK THESE FUCKERS
ALSO OVER MY DEAD BODY

The bill “was introduced two days after FBI Director Kash Patel told a House committee that there has been “a sharp increase of known or suspected terrorists” coming into the U.S. from Canada. He pledged to “get creative and put more resources into that.”

I heard about Pulsar's discovery months ago and immediately bought their stock. Recent analysis showed significant He-3 content too.

Is there an argument to be made for re-shaping how beer is sold and liquor bottles collected in Ontario?
• Maybe.

Should we skip the discussion part and just shake things up without planning ahead?
• No, that's irrespon-

Ok, let's drop over *half a billion* to do it right bloody now.
• WTF, Doug?
As more Ontario Beer Store sites close, the real hangover may be over recycling the empties | CBC News
Empty Beer Store locations are filling with new tenants, from restaurants to pet shops — but no one seems to want to take Ontario's 1.6 billion empty containers.

6 Canadians — including a First Nations woman — have been detained by Israel after their aid ship was intercepted in international waters while carrying medical supplies to Gaza.

Canada must demand their immediate release.

Time for my annual Covid/flu Vaccine PSA for Toronto folks:

If you have mobility issues and need a vaccine at home, Toronto Paramedic Services will come to you! You don’t have to be a senior to qualify. (I was referred by a TPH nurse but self-referral is fine)

Spread the word!

Another Doug Ford fiasco: My curling club is getting shafted by The Beer Store's online ordering and delivery failures, and all the nearby Beer Stores for in-person shopping have closed thanks to Doug's mismanagement of the file.
#onpoli
#topoli
Screenshot of message from curling club management: "Dealing with the Beer Store is becoming increasingly challenging. The current Beer Store policy is that if you place an order that is less than $1500, you are assessed a $175 surcharge (in addition to a delivery charge). What is happening more often than not is that we place an order that totals more than $1500 based on the inventory shown on the Beer Store's website, but when we receive the delivery, it is missing items which were ordered so we end up not meeting the $1500 minimum and then we get stung by the $175 surcharge. And what is even more annoying is that they don't tell you in advance: if we we knew we were not getting the full delivery, we'd probably try and add other items so that we'd hit the minimum."

The latter has already occurred.
