I haven't dipped into his thrillers yet - I only heard about them recently, and I'm doing a bit of F Forsyth and le Carre, so I don't expect he'll compare well to them!😆 Did hear him read an extract from one on Radio4.

Those 1st 3 are excellent. Finding Trio in the library got me on to him.

Oh!! BRILL!!! I've just finished The Blue Afternoon. Currently my least favourite, along with Stars and Bars. The latter was too influenced I think by his hatred of that part of America (not that I disagree with him). TBA started as too complex a mix of flashbacks, and didn't really congeal.

I have been investigating the feedback of errors or reward messages.
Back prop is not suitable, nor is Holland's bucket-brigade system.
Others do work. Plenty can be done to optimise them though.

...is the function of the P-network in my Pandemonium Association Engine.
There's also a parallel network: the same, but weighted by desirability of outcome, related to goal seeking.

A core function of cortex is predicting what happens next given the world's state.

This recent paper from Oxford shows how cortical layers may use a delay trick to learn to predict.

I'm sure William Boyd will have thought about Jane G in 1990 when he wrote his book Brazzaville Beach, though the main character was not like Jane.
Excellent book - one of his better ones.

Of course another William Boyd (WMSB) was a teacher of mine at school. He later taught at Whitgift.
