Pope Leo XIV has blasted how wealthy people live in a “bubble of comfort and luxury” while the poor suffer. In his first teaching document Thursday, Leo confirms that he is in perfect lockstep with Pope Francis on matters of social injustice.

The social teaching of the Catholic Church is the largest - or the last global organization - left to speak about the poor, and in this way, about their dignity, hope, liberation and aspirations.

I don’t know anyone who wants to live in the USA.

Most people I know wouldn’t even visit the USA now - including me

This is better from the Courier. Helping to tackle misinformation and defuse tensions. One of the most common lies peddled by those trying to divide our communities over asylum is this rubbish about criminality. The police in Perthshire confirm - there is absolutely no evidence.

You don’t actually have to both sides this. The Jewish community in the UK is not the Israeli government. You can just condemn the murder of two British Jews killed in their place of worship and you don’t have to say a single other thing.

Met with John Lee of @TOMRAGroup in parliament to talk all things reverse vending.

UK DRS scheme will not be up and running before 2027. DRS is already up and running in Ireland, where 1 BILLION bottles and cans were recycled in its first year.

EC are not the police. Police investigations would have to be triggered by a complaint. Has there been one?

From a Railway Carriage
by Robert Louis Stevenson

Faster than fairies, faster than witches,
Bridges and houses, hedges and ditches;
And charging along like troops in a battle,
All through the meadows the horses and cattle:
All of the sights of the hill and the plain
Fly as thick as driving rain;
And ever again, in the wink of an eye,
Painted stations whistle by.

Here is the child who clambers and scrambles,
All by himself and gathering brambles;
Here is a tramp who stands and gazes;
And there is the green for stringing the daisies!
Here is a cart run away in the road
Lumping along with man and load;
And here is a mill and there is a river:
Each a glimpse and gone forever!

Russia attacks Poland deliberately, the Trump response…”It could’ve been a mistake.”
Any European state basing its defense plans on the US defending it from a Russian attack is living in a fantasy world and deliberately exposing its citizens to great risk.

We would also wish that the drone attack on Poland was a mistake. But it wasn’t. And we know it.

Thank you Michael Fanone. For those who do not recognize the name, Michael is one of the officers who defended America on January 6th and was left permanently injured as a result. He is a true hero of our Democracy.

Just over a week to go! Communities still have time to submit events for Community Land Festival 2025 – but don’t wait too long. Submissions close on Monday 22 September.

There are a few bursaries available to help groups bring their ideas to life.

Throwing a brick through the window of a hotel housing asylum seekers in Falkirk is absolutely despicable.

People who fled war and persecution deserve to live in safety, not fear.

Words have consequences - it’s time for politicians who spread hate to reflect on that.

If Vladimir Putin’s intention was to use an early-morning drone foray into Poland to test Nato’s air defences, the Russian president would be most pleased with the result. And, experts warn, he will probably be encouraged to go further next time. on.ft.com/3JUnOFg
