The artwork created by our students is just wonderful. Very thoughtful and insightful into their strengths and the challenges of living with DLD.

🚨 Only 7 days until #DLDday! 💜💛

You can't see DLD... but you can see this incredible display from our amazing students at Moor House School & College who have been exploring this year's theme through a powerful art project.

#DLDday is coming, so I’m starting a thread over a few days.

DLD (Developmental Language Disorder) is all about spoken language. Words and sentences are tricky for people with DLD. And people don’t grow out of it.

A courteous but very impressive rebuke to Nigel Farage from the Bishop of Oxford.

"I heard no compassion in what you said...".

"I disagree profoundly with your attempts to ... increase fear of the stranger in our communities".

Do read.

"Pat, why do you carry that ridiculous 600mm lens on long hikes?"

Buddy, I can see mountains reflected in the eyes of a trailside pika.
A pika sits on a mossy rock. Tighter crop of the same pika, focusing on its head. An even tighter crop, focusing more on the pika's eye. An extremely tight crop of the pika's eye, emphasizing their reflection of an early morning mountain scene.

Fantastic. This is just what we need.

Could you also do one on language difficulties? Especially Developmental Language Disorder (DLD) which affects 7% of children (2 in every classroom).

Low awareness means that people with DLD have to constantly explain what DLD is. #DLDday is on 17th Oct

When funding models dictate services - especially when excellent evidence exists that may contradict those funding models - we need to rigorously query what clinicians are doing

See this thread to you a few months ago for more information about Developmental Language Disorder @michaelrosenyes.bsky.social. An episode of Word of Mouth would be so helpful to the 1 million children in the UK with DLD. The linguistics of DLD is also fascinating

I would love to follow up with you on your question about children entering school with language difficulties. Many of these may have Developmental Language Disorder (DLD) #DevLangDis

DLD affects 7% of the population (2 in every class) and yet awareness is very low.

DLD is really very common. Way more common than other well know conditions such as autism.
DLD is a difficulty with using and understanding words and sentences.
And the biggest problem is that very few people have heard of it.

🚨 Great to see this @healthwatchengland.bsky.social post capture how people value speech and language therapy and highlight some of the issues they face accessing it.

😃 Very good to see the RCSLT's 'A profession under pressure' report highlighted.

👏 @gillianrudd.bsky.social.
