if it goes the way I expect, there's also a beautiful dramatic irony. "ignoring your boundaries put up out of misery, to pull you out and into happiness" is rather a problematic trope, but let's say that happens - that's a backfire for Shiori, if she accidentally makes Hinako start valuing her life

in this, seeing in this a path towards her desired death

All contrasted with her good friend Miko inviting her out sincerely and effusively respecting her boundaries when Hinako turns her down

It's all so deliciously unhealthy and ruinous

I especially liked the handling of Hinako's boundaries, namely how Shiori forcefully pushes past them (communicated very visually, uncomfortably so), because she is very explicitly a predator of humans and states her unapologetically selfish intents as such... and Hinako fatalistically finds relief

ep 2 convinced me a lot more. The 'atmospheric' conceit omnipresent in the first is employed more selectively here and as a result to greater effect, and it generally benefits from its premise settling in a bit

It felt a lot more compelling

This Monster Wants to Eat Me

yuri (monster fucker) (toxic) (vore) (sadcore)

The I liked directorial ambition of this 1st episode - an piano/ambient piece flowing between scenes with the protagonist distant in her pain from the world - but it felt undercut by capability and the basic production
This Monster Wants to Eat Me #01: Hinako's hands being clasped by Shiori's, at sunset and on a walkway by the sea, Hinako's face and Shiori's white dress splashed with red of a youkai's blood slain by Shiori

nobody talks about how fucked up the trap-bath split is when you're talking to somebody on the other side and unconsciously start mirroring them and say a word wrong in your dialect

It should be on CR

I went and looked at summer 2010 and at least that had Shiki!

and CAT PLANET CUTIES

what also gets me is just how many of the shows - not even landfill isekai/narou ones - just look kinda bad? maybe it's a fluke or confirmation bias, but it seems to me like more of what I've checked out than usual are pretty limited productions/artistically basic right from the outset

it actually took me a while to clock that, I initially just figured it was the mangaka's good taste

tragically I have not got around to watching horse girls so I'm holding onto spyfam3 like it's a life ring

I appreciate recruiters giving me a head's up on what to expect from an interview

I do not appreciate having a second interview in a row shape up to be an SQL exam

it's also bizarrely important to the story as these two become fast friends over their shared love but whoops they're secretly destined enemies, how will their friendship (over not!fresh precure) survive??

this really is looking like an all-timer bad anime season huh

Wandance

A show about dancing where the dancing is (bad) CG 🫠

Beyond that I also found it didn't land. The confrontation scene in particular focusing more on "trying to be cool is pointless" over "holy shit you're a piece of shit fuck you" was especially unconvincing

Disappointing
Wandance #01: Kabo encountering Wanda outside the school, in front of large reflective windows, as she puts some music on on her phone ready to start dancing

Learning a lot about the mangaka

Let he who is not Eas-pilled cast the first stone
Ninja vs. Gokudo #01: An image of Heath, a character from the show's parody of Fresh Precure!, parodying Eas, on a dakimakura

Ninja vs. Gokudo

More bad anime. Just an OTT action show that is barely animated and not particularly well-drawn. Sometimes seemingly has a stylistic touch not unlike Fukomoto works, and occasionally manages to be amusingly OTT, but mostly bad.

I did appreciate the Fresh Precure! references though
Ninja vs. Gokudo #01: Shinoha, a blond surly teenage boy, and Kiwami, a loud and enthusiastic business man, talk about Flash Princess - a parody of Fresh Precure! - on the street, complete with obvious stand-ins for the characters visualised behind them
