I rarely post on Bluesky, but I’ve been on this site for over a year. Like a lot of us on here, I killed my Twitter account after the 2024 election and came here. In my time here I have chosen to be a window shopper, an observer.
👏👏👏
We hope the good people of #SanFrancisco will forgive us for adapting a song about their city in 1967 to address the shocking and tragic events in #Minnesota in recent weeks. This is dedicated to Renée Good and Alex Pretti, and in solidarity. Our version is called "Minnesota" ❤️

I have begun to think that Minnesota pushback to ICE was unique and a model because it gave people something to do. It wasn’t about just going out in streets for rallying purposes. People had a mission: videos, whistles, information and communication flow to communities. They had something to do.

The biggest risk in this moment is something sociologists call “symbolic compliance.”

That’s when an institution that is violating civil rights gives the public just enough symbolic victories that accountability efforts lose steam before there has been any meaningful change.

Paul Newman was born on this day in 1925 in Cleveland Heights, Ohio. Most of us are familiar with his legendary film career. Let’s take a brief look at his activism, philanthropy and social entrepreneurship. /1

That rage you feel is sacred. Honor it.

We’re in the fight of our lives and honestly we have been for some time now.

Don’t allow yourself to go numb. Don’t look away. None of this shit is normal.

"The armed suspect reacted violently."

An outright, barefaced and monstrous lie, conclusively disproven by irrefutable video evidence.

This is courage. Looking a masked, government fascist dead in the eye, face to face, knowing full well that your life is on the line.

If elected officials had 1/10th of Alex Pretti's resolve, we would have far fewer troubles.

Not brandishing a weapon, just a phone. His only crime was standing up to ICE. They executed him for that crime. In broad daylight in a major American city with observers filming. Just like Renee Good two weeks ago. Get ICE out of Minneapolis now or this will happen again.

Wise words from WEB DuBois to gird us today: "It would be shame and cowardice to surrender this glorious land and its opportunities for civilization and humanity to the thugs and lynchers, the mobs and profiteers, the monopolists & gamblers who today choke its soul and steal its resources."

The guy who yelled pedophile protector is as much of a “lunatic” as Renee Good was “deranged.” This White House keeps characterizing those in alignment with majority opinion as crazy.

I look at some of my posts over the last week and I kinda cringe. I’m not trying to sound like some sort of social media revolutionary. What I’m trying to say is that all of us need to start using our voices, no matter how small we think they are. Together is the only way we effectively fight back.

Remember that month before Covid really hit in 2020? February into March. So many things happening quickly and we felt like we had no control over any of it. And then boom, everything was shut down. I have that feeling again now with Trump. But this time we can control it. If we fight back. If.

This is the sort of statement that was expected from every university president and law firm partner over the last year. That those statements weren’t made played a huge part in where we are now and people will remember.
Jerome Powell: "This is about whether the Fed will be able to continue to set interest rates based on evidence and economic conditions—or whether instead monetary policy will be directed by political pressure or intimidation."

They won't have the numbers to occupy the nation and force everyone to comply, and that's why they're engaged in such an aggressive show of force. They're hoping we all get cowed into submission and do their work of suppression ourselves.

Once again, no.

The mantra remains "fuck you, make me."

WSJ investigation: In the past 6 months ICE agents have fired at vehicles 13 times, leading to:

* 8 people shot
* 5 of which were U.S. citizens
* 2 died
* no victims drew a weapon

The playbook: Agents box in a vehicle, block attempts to flee, then fire

Keith Porter, Renee Good. And probably others I don’t know about. How many names are we going to allow to be added to the list? Because if we do nothing it will only continue to grow.

An important 🧵 to read and remember as we move forward. This will be an extremely complicated case and cannot be rushed into just because the video shows exactly what we all know it shows. Accountability will take time. And while we wait, continue speaking truth to power. Do not give them one inch.
Here’s a comment for the people who are upset that MN hasn’t charged Jonathan Ross already:

If you just Leeeroy Jenkins this shit you will lose and you will empower fascism and murder.

It is indescribably hard to prosecute cops for murder. It is even hard when the murder is ON VIDEO.

/8 A huge part of what makes it very hard to convict Jonathan Ross for murder was baked into America generations before Trump was President. That’s the primary factor that lets law enforcement kill with impunity, not Trump.

Dick Wolf has killed more black men than Leopold II.
