Worth adding that I've also unfortunately known a number of unhealthy, clout-needy, and outright threatening people through achievement hunting in XIV's in-game system. Some of that intersects with MMO player typing, sure. But it's still worth acknowledging how awful many can be with these systems.
I personally really like achievement systems, but that's also just how I've come to interface with games; I appreciate the structure they provide, and the personal satisfaction they can bring. I also understand it's not everyone's bag (either for players or developers) and that's fine, too.

My favorite PS2 memory was how entirely nonchalant getting it was: I didn't buy one until I think some time into 2001 or early 2002, and it ended up being an impulse buy while I was out one day. (I want to say it was at the Funcoland in Bluestar, but I think it was somewhere in Watchung Square?)

I feel like modern-day multimedia storytelling started getting really tiring after it became standard to have numerous extant side-stories and plot threads strewn amongst multiple different mediums, all for the unlikely chance one would show up in the "main" anchor storyline
