how does our library go? by tfgrognon
You're a library & you're in motion. A travelling library game for one or more.

this entire thread is very good
But when things being published are just handfuls of empty tropes, I feel like I'm not taking in someone's observed reality, but rather their third-hand account of something they heard once. It's like being on the very end of a game of telephone, and the message is dull, muffled, flat.

Isn't Travis McElroy still holding their hands??
amazing how yet another round of "you have to promise you'll vote for the shitbag years in advance" reveals itself to have nothing to do with strategy and pragmatics and everything to do with "i am scared and anxious and everyone on the internet needs to promise me everything will turn out alright"

this is the flipside of "what if libraries were bars for adults who were scared of loud noises" and "what if libraries could also do laundry????" discourse you see people with terminal whimsy bring up.
A vivid example of "mission creep" and "libraries aren't essential services except when they're told to be" that are creating a mental health hellscape for library workers.

A point I make in my work on this subject is that we need to reject the insistance that convos abt commercial AI products should be about the tech. Determining whether AI is “conscious” is a Smartwashing exercise in solipcism that distracts from the material conditions of the product’s distribution

The point of the AI project is to provoke despair in creative people. They haven’t produced profits or anything anyone wants, just a steady stream of articles about how us artistic types can’t do the thing we’re already doing, making art. Jokes on them, we’re even better at despair than they are.

More people are being deported from Florida and Texas, for example, than most other states, but because these are happening on the regular and by local police, there really isn't national news coverage. But if you look at deportation data, it's pretty clear.
