i tried all mint versions first + xubuntu, but lubuntu seemed to be the smoothest one
i might try the last solution to fix MBR tho, before wiping out the poor thing, important stuff was backed up before all that anyway

i successfully installed lubuntu on my old old pc (after foolishly breaking MBR of win10, because i initially wanted it make dual boot just in case) which is basically boomer internet surfing machine now
i managed to make it as close to the old thing in feel as possible and no complaints yet
