If I was a dictator I would immediately force all landlords to reduce the rent by 50% and revoke drivers licenses from everybody who owns a Tesla. But that's why I would never be in the situation of becoming a dictator to begin with.

Using imperfect tools in a way that serves the greater good is to me a better way to live than cowering in the comfort of moral purity. If you can't have this nuanced discussion don't bother replying. There is room for disagreement on this topic, but thus far that hasn't been permitted.

At some point it is important to acknowledge adherence to the letter of your principle is a privilege. We are not in a lab, we are in real life. We would be more valuable by staying and countering the right's narratives and algorithmic dominance. Doing so is more in the SPIRIT of our principles.

I think that allowing ourselves to be chased off every social media platform is actually not productive. The argument that it will destroy the platform thus far that hasn't been shown to be true. BUT the right has clearly gained more digital territory and our community's have been dispersed.

I understand and agree with the movement to get people off substack and Twitter. But also - it’s HARD to be responsible for the sins of everyone who owns stuff. It’s genuinely difficult to build a following, an income source, and then have to keep migrating because of things out of your control.

I spoke to a Venezuelan woman who was arrested in this raid and later released with her 4yo son. She said agents broke down their door, pointed guns at them and made sexualized remarks about Venezuelan women. When she returned to her apartment it was boarded up and all her possessions were gone.

The underlying threat here is if Apple didn't comply, they'd slap billions in tariffs on Apple products.
