True, there is a lot you can do if you're lucky enough to have both spare time and a day job. Which I suppose was also somewhat true back then, but it was much harder to deliver anything to an audience.

True, but, RSVPs do help the organizers estimate crowd size. With the recent No Kings protest in my area, they realized they were going to get like 10x the number of people they initially expected, and were able to scramble to accommodate that because RSVPs.
