I think it’s laughable how democratic socialists (DSA) are framed as the specter haunting Minneapolis.

Arline’s voting YES on Q1 to pass Administrative Citations — the tool we need to better enforce what we’ve already won:

🏙️ Tenants’ rights
🤒 Sick & safe time
💵 Minimum wage
⚖️ & more!

We fought hard for these laws — now it’s time to give them teeth.

🗳️ Vote YES on Q1: bit.ly/STPadmincites

I don’t know if anyone is keeping score but groups affiliated with Frey and Joe Rad have now been found guilty of campaign violations at least twice in this election cycle. That doesn’t even count the one guilty guy they were helping lying about his residence for caucusing. Sheesh!

her argument for why socialism can’t work here is “racism.” which doesn’t pass the smell test?
the examples she uses are more products of capitalism than they are “racism.”

I think her fear of the DSA community is misplaced (I think the general fear of the DSA community is misplaced).

Some exciting news: 404 Media just won a grant via Muckrock to investigate book bans and educational censorship in the U.S. The plan is to file hundreds of public records requests around the country and to report on and archive all the documents for public use:

Can y’all please be on the lookout for my bike? Last seen in Elliot Park. It is a black Biria bike with red pedals and stickers of local news orgs on the bottom tube. It also has a Brooks saddle and adapters for Wolf Tooth pogies on the handlebars.

this is an explicitely nazi administration and anyone who still supports them should be viewed as such

Incredible.

Jack Posobiec references the earliest version of antifa -- the anti-fascists in the Weimar Republic who were opposed to the Nazi Party -- as the bad guys.

I will 100% support any politician who takes transit, bikes, or walks regularly to get around. Be out in community! Don’t just drive through it.

I'm on the slowest bus line in the city with the slowest buses in the nation to talk to New Yorkers about what it would mean for their lives if we made them fast and free.

Some people might say, “Taylor opposes Frey, why should we trust her reporting?” and as an alt-weekly vet who used to beat the Strib on this stuff I respond, “look at her facts; it’s basic shoe-leather reporting. It’s easy as shit for “objective’ mainstream media to do. They just don’t do it.”

Free healthcare to all residents of the US regardless of immigration status would rule, actually. Universal benefits for universal problems (having a body that can get sick or hurt)

Literally all they've got any more is KKK-style nativism, directed specifically at Latinos. Every single GOP message collapses back to this. They've become the Klan

Bridging my current life in Chicago and my past life in D.C., I argue today at @newrepublic.com that Democrats should ~never~ vote to fund this government. Make John Thune blow up Senate rules and Republicans wholly own the U.S. extra-military military doing war crimes against us, funded by us.
The Case for the Forever Shutdown
Senate Democrats actually allowing the GOP to stop funding the government is only the first step. Now they have to make the case that Trump’s government is illegitimate.

This is the most accurate depiction of the Midwest to date. Wichita has always felt like the last Midwest city while also being the first plains city.

I tried to get my hands on Ethan Rutherford's novel (a finalist for the National Book Award) North Sun or The Voyage of the Whaleship Esther, but the bookstore didn't have any copies at the moment.
I didn't order a copy from the bookstore, because I had just acquired two other books. moderation!

I also picked up a copy of Bora Chung's latest, Midnight Timetable: A Novel in Ghost Stories.

folks, if you like weird fiction in translation (or in general), you need to be reading Bora Chung. her story collections Your Utopia and Cursed Bunny are both very much worth your time.

I went to the bookstore and picked up my preordered copy of Thomas Pynchon's new novel, Shadow Ticket (on shelves today).
I also bought a sandwich at the cheese shop. the sandwich had chèvre, roasted broccolini, tomatillo jam, and e.v.o.o..
it was a very good sandwich.
not a bad start to tuesday.
