Ah, so you're a captive audience. So don't double what you're thinking, quadruple it. I've heard of occasional surgeries like this where only one person in the world does it but it's exceptional. No one in other countries? (which I can see is difficult)

I would love to go elsewhere but that would mean trying to get in with you only other person in the country who I know does this surgery.

The guy who pioneered it retired. He trained a couple people. Getting to the other one would require multiple cross country flights and I physically can't do it

I was about to say you should go elsewhere. I don't work privately, but it should be possible to keep a rough running total and give patients some idea of where you're at and where you're going. In my experience it's double what you're thinking!

I lost at least five times in the last 5 months. I even tried going directly to the billing person because he mentioned that person who works out the financial aspects so I was like okay maybe he just doesn't handle this directly but no she has been specifically instructed not to tell me.

Also facility fees and anesthesia fees are different so while there are some things that would fall under his costs, I know there are others that he can't speak to. But I'm not asking him to do that.

Only legitimate reason I can think of
Is related to proposed rate changes for things like the hospital costs and costs for supplies for the surgeries.

To clarify the surgery is not covered by insurance and is paid for in cash by everyone who has it, the facility may be partially covered by Medicare but that's it.

He knows his own cash fee. He's just refusing to tell me for some reason.
