This is really really bad. Like, you think sponsored ads on Google are annoying? Wait until ISPs throttle load speeds to websites that don't pay them for higher speeds.
A direct consequence of the Supreme Court overturning the Chevron doctrine in Loper Bright Enterprises last term. We are seriously fucked.

Your daily reminder that language is a technology. Chopsticks are technology. Technology literally means “the practical application of knowledge.”

We occlude a lot of cool things by limiting the idea of technology Silicon Valley.
Yeah, like… "tech" or "technology" should cover a lot of other things than software, no? Hardware, machines, factories, any industry really. Solar panels are tech, car engines are tech.
it’s not the “tech industry”, it’s the “united states venture capital backed software industry” and we should say as much

Adults who lack the moral clarity to say what we’re seeing have no excuse
“Terrible things are happening outside. Poor helpless people are being dragged out of their homes by the Gestapo. Families are torn apart; men, women and children are separated. Children come home from school to find that their parents have disappeared.”

It's becoming chillingly clear: an administration that gleefully dismantled USAID and consigned countless people to slow death by starvation and preventable disease will not hesitate to inflict hunger on tens of millions of Americans by cutting off SNAP funds.

It literally took decades of advocacy to pass these reforms, which would have prevented prison phone and teleconferencing companies from ripping off inmates and their families to the tune of hundreds of millions annually

Legislators refusing to think about the reality of black markets and how that can be a constraint on regulatory options or even make them backfire. Many such cases.
U.S. lawmakers want to ban Chinese drones for security reasons.

They do not seem to realize this will spark a revival of the old DIY drone movement among people who cannot afford overpriced, bad American-made drones.

This will create many exciting, brand-new security threats. Possibly worse ones.

Yes, House Speaker Mike Johnson said, "[Democrats] keep saying Republicans are in charge of the government. We aren’t." He was referring to the Senate's 60-vote threshold as the chamber remains deadlocked over a measure to reopen the government. www.snopes.com/fact-check/m...

While the feds continue to play stupid games, SNAP recipients are set to lose food aid for the next month. In the Bay Area, a growing number of restaurants are stepping up to help, and we're maintaining the list. Share with anyone who needs it. www.coyotemedia.org/these-bay-ar...

I’m sharing a Palestinian account every day and today is Reham. Reham is 24 and was working on finishing her Bachelors in nursing before the war. She lost her brother, home and university and is struggling to survive with her family including her parents and her little brother Ali who is only 12.

see, they *can* overturn these tariffs, they just don't *want* to except where beef is involved
🚨 The Senate votes 52-48 to overturn President Trump's 50 percent tariffs on Brazil. 5 GOP Senators break ranks to vote against Trump: Collins ME, McConnell KY, Murkowski AK, Paul KY, and Tillis NC.

The Trump administration could fund SNAP if it wanted to.

But after squeezing budgets with the highest grocery inflation in years, Trump is making things even harder by cutting off the aid families rely on.

if someone wanted to take me and my kids shopping, that would be amazing! It costs us about $150 to eat a week with inflation and if we cut out any snacks whatsoever.
Participants on SNAP receive an average of $187 per month.

Now if only 40 million of us chip in this amount or Elon gave 2% of his net worth, we’d be set for November.

I love Rebecca DOWN. Known as Dollar Tree Dinners.

Her “Meal in a Bag” is meant to provide ppl with a complete meal that is $8 or less, is shelf stable, & can be made without access to a full kitchen. I love this as a direct aid option. Good for neighbors & elders who can’t/wont go to a pantry.
