marina here is just the perfect example of how there’s no “wrong” or “bad” way to be speaking out — like not everyone has to perfectly articulate & defend their own unique perspective on what’s going on, it can truly be this simple! hope the uswnt & nwsl are looking to unrivaled as an activism model
Renee Montgomery asks Marina Mabrey about the Crashout Jar and people holding up money for it, Marina freaks out a bit when she finds out she got a tech during the game but says any money in the crashout jar will be donated to support Minneapolis

Went straight from the airport to Foley Square to join thousands of New Yorkers enraged & inspired by Minneapolis.

Let’s make sure we follow their example to protect our neighbors & demand ICE get the hell out of Minnesota & NY & everywhere else.

(Also, so nice & warm here by comparison :-)

NEW YORK CITY! The ICE Hotline is ☎️ 229 304 8720. If you see ICE, snap a photo, call & report as much info as possible. They'll alert the neighborhood. Help spread the word!

Candlelight vigil for Alex Pretti
Jan 29, 2026
Manhattan VA hospital, NYC

This evening, thousands gathered to mourn and celebrate the life of Alex Pretti who was executed by ICE on Jan 24th. Alex was a VA, ICU nurse, union member, and public servant who dedicated his life to caring for others.

To put a finer point on this, upzoning single-family neighborhoods would probably make a lot of homeowners wealthier by enhancing the value of the land underneath their homes. But it would also raise the specter of apartments (and maybe even non-white apartment-dwellers) on their block.
I don't think there's any plausible scenario in which a big spurt in homebuilding wipes out the wealth of incumbent homeowners, but that's not really what Trump is talking about when says he wants to protect property values. It's a segregationist dog whistle, always has been.

Since Renee Good and Alex Pretti were murdered, thousands more Minnesotans have signed up to do ICE watch, rapid response & mutual aid. Some serious courage. Thanks @elliottpayne.org and Kathleen for breaking it down for @handsoffnyc.bsky.social and me.

Lovely day for my teams. #LFC with a great 6-0 win in the Champions League. #Knicks crush the Raptors in Toronto 119-92.
#Isles thump the Rangers 5-2 and #UCONWBB with another rout and remain undefeated.

Last night, I flew to Minneapolis with Hannah from @handsoffnyc.bsky.social to meet the brave organizers & neighbors fighting against ICE’s occupation of their city.

Our goals: to listen & learn, to share their rage & pain, and to show our gratitude for their leadership at this critical moment.

New York workers lose $1-3 billion to wage theft each year. The EmPIRE Worker Protection Act would empower workers & unions to enforce the Labor Law - and generate $200 mill+ in revenue.

I wrote about EmPIRE in the @timesunion
today:

Commentary: EmPIRE Act will help New Yorkers fight back against wage theft
Measure will empower workers, increase transparency and bring in money for the state.

Very little if anything seems to have changed on the ground. ICE is still out there terrorizing neighborhoods and trying to disappear neighbors. None of us on the ground are buying this bullshit. We will keep organizing and fighting.
The intense fallout from the killing of Alex Pretti has forced President Trump to publicly change course in Minneapolis.

Listen to our White House reporters discuss the changes on today's episode of "The Daily."
Trump Changes Course in Minneapolis
The White House has been met with broad outcry over the killing of Alex Pretti, as well as pushback from Congress.
