Representative Nydia Velázquez is the blueprint. A truly badass Boricua.

As the first Puerto Rican woman ever elected to the U.S. House of Representatives, she opened doors for so many of us – myself included – and inspired a generation to believe in the power and possibilities of public service.

Read the thread by @anamariecox.bsky.social and her letter/notes to Olivia Nuzzi. Best piece I’ve read on the whole thing.
There's been so much dunking on the excerpt, and parts are v indulgent! But there's a pattern to what's wrong with it that illustrates what she claims to care about.

So I did a line edit of the whole thing (you can read that at the link below) and an editor memo.

Heard about this from people on the scene. The thugs had tails between their legs. If you were born in the USA and aren’t in a rapid response network, you’re doing anti-fascism wrong.
Today there was an attempted ICE raid in Bensonhurst & community members showed up. Even though NYPD collaborated with ICE by trying to disburse the crowd; community members stood their ground & ICE left without kidnapping a single person per the rapid response groups I'm on. We protect us!

Moral rot in elite journalism is killing the whole field

But to smear a dead journalist, while sitting with the person accused of orchestrating his murder is just vile.

Every time this administration hits rock bottom, a trap door seems to open.
