So... if anyone is looking into the idea of moving to Europe, for whatever reason, I know people who were hugely helpful for us, and I'm happy to share any & all info I have.

My DMs are open.

I was joking about this, but if we can reclaim Pepe the frog from fascism, then let's take thelat as a W.

Nazis everywhere are pissed off that Antifa is co-opting the frog and making it a left wing symbol.

Word up to every single one of those, but especially Iris Dement. She's been infuriatingly good for decades now.

Glad I bought stock in ketchup this morning. Someone's gonna paint some walls.

Keeping it arbitrarily to just women from this century, and excluding hip-hop completely because that's just a cheat code:

Courtney Barnett
Chappell Roan
Carly Rae Jepsen
Lucy Dacus
Maren Morris
Lucinda Williams
Sara Bareilles
Charli XCX

There's more, but I'm busy this morning.

I also need to know: I am fairly middle-of-the-road on Taylor Swift but someone I know called her the Greatest Living Lyricist. She is not.

Who is yours? Either the greatest or your favorite?

You know, we didn't need to take back Pepe, but y'know, here we are

Oct. 8, 1925: Vincenzo Peruggia, the man who stole the “Mona Lisa,” dies of a heart attack on his 44th birthday outside Paris. The Italian worker at the Louvre walked off with the masterwork in 1911 and kept it two years, claiming he wanted to return it to Leonardo’s home country.

I see pieces like this a lot, often w/ a spin of lamenting cultural degeneration, but reading is a LABOR issue, it’s declined because so many people are working overtime or two jobs & employers expect after hours work. France has Earth’s highest reading rate b/c long lunch breaks & labor protections

Honestly, on balance, that sounds like a W. You advanced the plot! A thing happened that had to happen!
tonyhightower.bsky.social
Yup. If you're only stepping off the train now, your threshold for fascism is already way too fucking high.

If you can afford it, support good film criticism today.

The alternative are these idiots spewing word salad reviews that are little more than a semi coherent recap that manages to insult the craft of filmmaking while misunderstanding every creative choice that was made.

Have just seen a popular Youtuber reviewing a stone cold horror classic complaining about the camera work (describing it as "bad"...) because it made them feel anxious during a scene of tension which "was probably done on purpose".

I fucking despair.

And Mojo's sister Cynthia took a whole nother path besides.

Jane Goodall was my first childhood hero, as I loved animals as a kid and was inspired by her story. I still remember the National Geographic specials about her. RIP.

I'd be willing to bet my left arm that he most certainly has no clue whatsoever who the Ceausescus are.

I like both those people. Interesting.

If I had a Letterboxd-style top four for albums, this would be on it.

Not really. I just saw footage from of them hurling abuse at (I think) Rory McIlroy. I wish I was surprised.

Damn. Well done, all of youse. Keep it going.
