This was just such a quiet, emotional, perfect film.

Oh no! Talk about a true titan of music.

I didn't need an excuse to play The Harder They Come tonight anyways, but, well.
Reggae legend Jimmy Cliff has died at 81. Massive influence to The Clash, The Slits, The Specials, The Police, The Selecter, No Doubt and countless others. RIP

Hey now, we don't have *that* much rustic pottery here.

I mean, yeah, the rest of that is spot on, but.
Twitter accounts are based in Russia. BlueSky accounts are based in homes with, frankly, too many books, plants, obsolete cables, and pieces of rustic pottery, that could do with a bit of a tidying up, to be honest.

The quote posts to this are touting every single one of these films, as well as tons of others that came out while we were all locked down. Do yourself a favor and check these out.

(I haven't seen any of these, because of, well, more than just COVID. But that will change.)

This is a hell of a fun band. A nice little power pop infusion for your Friday.
For the last week or so I've been mainlining the catalogue of French 80s indie rock darlings Les Calamités, in aural and visual form, so I turned it into a MetaFilter post. Pretty much every track of their small catalog is a banger.
'Je suis une calamité/un bâton de dynamite allumé'
Les Calamités were a French indie rock band from the town of Beaune in Burgundy comprised of Caroline Augier, Isabelle Petit, Odile Repolt and Mike Stephens. They recorded 16 bangers between...

For sale: new hog, blowed up.
You've seen me write about the neighbor who loves to rev his monstrous Harley Davidson motorbike early in the morning? Today, at about 05:30 there was a monstrous bang. Startled, I popped outside. A plume of smoke was rising from the bike and he was cursing his head off.

All the police have is brute force. They don’t have knowledge on their side, they don’t have the numbers, they don’t have the well-being of the society they pretend to protect. They can kill a person, but they can’t kill everyone, and they sure as hell can’t kill an idea.

This is horrifying. Teaching kids to paraphrase & guess at context before they actually learn to read is the stupidest thing I've ever heard.
