This is worth reading. A lot to unpack but it’s clear language.

Tl;dr (altho you should!!): the Drumpf admin has overloaded every system with all the arrests so that people (citizens & immigrants both) get lost and no one can figure out who to contact. The slow-moving courts can not keep up
If you want to read the transcript of the February 3 hearing where Julie Le had her "this job sucks" meltdown, now you can:

This is unreal. An AUSA talking like that in open court is about as close as you can come to a total breakdown. Never heard of anything like it.

I am proud to have done my small part by writing postcards and promoting the boycott of Avelo. Postcards and boycotting are 2 effective thing we can all do, even when 🥶. Join me writing businesses, to protect our neighbors and build a free and safe America for all.

Bovino is just the patsy - a noxious and odious fall guy. Stephen Miller is the architect and prime mover of the whole thing. Everything they do is at his direction - often after his threats. As long as he runs policy in the WH, nothing will change no matter how many Bovinos come and go.

It appears they are setting up Noem to take the fall.

A good start.

But what about Stephen Miller?!?!!

Congress is not powerless. Democrats must unify around an actual agenda.

1. Vote no on DHS funding bill.

2. Repeal the multi-year $75 billion funding for ICE.

3. End qualified immunity for ICE agents.

4. Investigate and prosecute every single ICE agent who broke the law.

"Because the legal avenues all apply after the fact, while the harm happens immediately"

is the best, clearest statement of where we're at right now
I think the most useful question isn't "what is he allowed to do" but "what might he try to do?"

Because the legal avenues all apply after the fact, while the harm happens immediately.

This is why it matters when Klobuchar, Gallego, Durbin, Kaine, Schatz, and OTHER DEMS vote to approve Drumpf judge nominees.
Dems should be voting NO ALL THE TIME.
Everything has consequences; every vote matters.
The higher the court, the likelier Trump was to win rulings in 2025:

District courts: 25%
Appeals courts: 51%
Supreme Court: 88%

I’ve been saying this for a while: several Dems say one thing, and vote another. Klobuchar, Gallego, Kaine, Schatz. Durbin is a lost cause, but people need to write the others and ask wtf. One of the ONLY guardrails that has stood is the courts. Electing bad Drumpf judges weakens those guardrails.
7 Democrats just voted today to confirm a Trump judicial nominee who refused to say what happened on January 6 or answer who won the 2020 election:

Durbin
Hassan
Kaine
King
Klobuchar
Shaheen
Welch

I'm telling you, Gallego is NOT a Dem that you can count on.
His voting record is TERRIBLE.
He likes to talk like he's on the right side.
But he consistently votes BADLY.
And I don't know WTF happened to Tim Kaine.
Voting yea: John Fetterman (PA), Ruben Gallego (AZ), Tim Kaine (VA), Angus King (I-ME), Jack Reed (RI), Jacky Rosen (NV), & Jeanne Shaheen (NH).

Gallego changed his cloture vote from nay to yea

6 Dems (Blunt Rochester, Coons, Kelly, Markey, Warnock & Welch) were absent. Kelly voted yea for cloture

If you’re rich, and you spend your day thinking: How can I make more money?, are you any different from a poor person who spends the day thinking: How can I make more money?

How is your wealth improving your life, if you spend every minute chasing money?

Medicare for all, paid leave, universal childcare.

Busting up big corporations and tackling Wall Street’s greed.

Getting big money out of politics.

Supporting unions and fighting for higher wages.

If Dems want to win back working people, this is the agenda they must support.

Five corporations control 90% of the US media market.

Airlines merged from 12 major carriers in 1980 to 4 today.

Four giants control 80% of meat processing.

The evidence of corporate consolidation is everywhere.

It means more power for them and less freedom for you.
Netflix's $83 billion takeover of Warner Bros Discovery would mean more corporate consolidation.

Netflix, by far the #1 streamer, would take over HBO Max, the #3 streaming service.

This giant merger could violate antitrust law and hurt consumers.

"The past decade has been a gloomy lesson in how limited a proportion of men actually see women as equal human beings."

Really makes me sad

I guess we gotta spend our time with the men who see us as equal. Different, sure, ok. But equal.

Find those guys.
A very good piece. “The fact that many men believe they no longer even have to pretend to respect women in order to participate in public life makes it unlikely that anything will change anytime soon.”
