My short story "The Cold Moon Crown" will be appearing in the Winter edition of WAXEN, which goes on sale February 1.

If you're into Christmas stories involving weird old-money families with skeletons in the closet, I daresay you might enjoy it.

One of the many great things about Water in the Desert, Fire in the Night is how Gethan Dick imagines that in a post-apocalyptic world people will still have a sense of humour. Join us at CHQ at 5.30pm this evening (tues 20th) to hear Gethan read and speak about it!

Photo by Pierre Lavie. Yes this is me. And I threw my Leica. It landed on the bass plate with hardly a scratch. Another Photographer grabbed it along with my phone and I was able to track him later. I was held face down tear gas deployed right in front of me and pepper sprayed directly into the eye.

Mike McCormack has a short story where Ireland and Norway are at war and a character remarks that "the mere idea that Ireland and Norway could be at war would have been ridiculous a few years ago" and I think about that all the time.

This is a fabulous and really enjoyable series so far, I highly recommend listening. Some incredible women whose stories and legacies haven't been acknowledged or remembered in Ireland as they should.
Over the past month my colleague Clodagh Finn and I recorded six podcasts about Irish women in history - a Christmas miniseries to replace my usual output. First one, Grizelda Steevens “the pig faced woman of Dublin” dropped today. Listen by searching for the Deirdre O’Shaughnessy podcast

And please also, AGAIN, never forget that they are inherently unethical to use because no one gave permission for their research or writing to be used in it. It is all stolen, and if you're using the plagiarism machine, please keep that in mind.
My friends, I say this with all the love in my heart: Right now might not be the moment for “But we should be TOLERANT and NUANCED about the plagiarism machines!”

Your tolerance and “nuance” will be weaponised by the grifters and their apologists. Please respect yourselves more.
