And also given how hostile your current government is to science funding (and life), I'm honestly not sure how much it would even achieve, or if it's even a good idea to put yourself 'on the radar' right now.

Explaining this whole thing to my partner the best summary I could come up with was "a popular streamer's dog yelped on stream and this means that Israel is justified in genociding Palestinians". A few years ago that sentence would have sounded insane but it feels pretty par for the course for 2025.

The thing is, the worse a book gets the better it becomes as a negative example, until perhaps it rolls around to being so bad that all it's mistakes would be intuitively obvious why one shouldn't have written it?

I do think there is something to be said for a work being just too damn dull though.

I tried to do some political advocacy here in Australia for giving labs more guaranteed funding to allow for more 'blue skies' (heh) research but ultimately I think the only politicians interested in such an idea are 1. a tiny minority and 2. already want more funding in general anyway.

Why @hakeem-jeffries.bsky.social, @chucktingle.bsky.social et al won't is clear: they THINK their reelection is locked up. They know the Americans who care don't have another option. And the second level leadership in the party is doing what they did with Biden: pretending nothing is wrong!

I'm not sure if I would rather play a Skritt, or just have a Skritt companion. There's a new spec that kind of has a Skritt companion, but only on skill activation.

Still waiting on them to have playable Tengu though, especially now the Gloster Canary tengu is in game. Admire the plumage!

even if it came to new relationships. If someone voluntarily gets into a relationship with an immortal, that's fine and cool, they know the risks. It's just what one side of a relationship becoming suddenly immortal does that gives me pause. Maybe if we could talk it through first?

It's just that we've been together for 11 years now, and hope to spend the rest of our lives together, adding in me suddenly becoming immortal feels like, on some level, that I'm altering the terms of that deal in a way that's one sided?

Can I pick so my partner would live forever too? Because I wanna pick the live forever one, but it doesn't feel fair if she doesn't get that either. And if we both get to live forever, then maybe we do that together, or maybe not, but at least we'll have the chance.
