I understand why they would do this but it still sucks that I can't buy any of the Steam backgrounds for any of the games that I don't own on Steam but own on console.

This Rayman character was never called Ales Mansay by any officially released capacity. If you just go by what Ubisoft calls him, he's either "The Magician" or "Dark Teensy".
We only know that his real name is Ales Mansay because Rayman Origins' scrapped beta script was still inside the game's code.
