Key reporting from @axios.com. In essence, a former Trump official, and then executive at TikTok's largest US investor, called TikTok and made clear that if Trump won in November, the ban wouldn't happen.

Then Trump became the most viewed content on TikTok.

And won.

And TikTok wasn't banned.

gotta do investigations into DHS “waste, fraud and abuse” as pretext for killing the agency

i think you can judge how free - or not - our political media is by the fact that elon musk literally did a sieg heil (twice) at a rally and it’s still seen as uncouth and overly partisan (in legacy media) to describe his politics as straightforwardly white supremacist.

And yet, the Trump administration's ceaseless repetition of some vaguely defined "Biden disaster" will no doubt bore into more brains than this actual fact.
Fun fact I just noticed: The U.S. had about half as much total job growth in 2025 (total) as during an average *month* during the Biden administration.
181k net jobs added over the entire course of 2025, versus average of 329k each month from 2021-2024.

I thought about why I’ve been pushing back on stolen midterm fears. What’s the harm of worry, even if it doesn’t materialize?

It’s this. The regime has less capacity than it’d like, and tries to make up the difference with bluster. If people act as if it’s true, that grants the regime more power.
don't carry maga's water for them. don't try to work out how there's some secret loophole in the constitution that magically ends democracy. there isn't. that's the whole fucking point you fucking dopes

He is referenced not a dozen times in the case files. Not 100 times. Not 1,000 times. He’s referenced 38,000 times.

Absolutely right. Democrats backed a national ban on gerrymandering while Republicans pushed their advantage in key states. This evens things up but also draws us closer to real reform.
on the balance i think partisan gerrymandering is bad but the only way it ends is if democrats weaponize it against republicans everywhere they can. wiping out republican lawmakers in blue states might bring the GOP to the table to end the practice.

In 1924, a racist mob of Piedmont residents forced a Black family to flee their home.

Sidney and Iréne Dearing were Piedmont's first Black home owners. A new lawsuit by their descendants alleges that city officials fraudulently took steps to push them out.

I think one thing people outside Minnesota don't understand is that after Good and Pretti were killed by feds while observing, the most normal people you could imagine have made peace with the fact that they could be next, and they are still out there because they say it's the right thing to do.
“If I am killed doing this, throw my body at the White House, martyr the shit out of me & raise hell. Do not be sad. Do not think I would do anything differently. I would do it over & over again — this is too important to sit down & shut up and not do anything.” www.mprnews.org/story/2026/0...

A fine is merely the cost of doing business. We need to be throwing C-suite level people in jail.
Do you remember when people were saying "I think my phone is listening to me, i'm getting ads for stuff I spoke about" and people said "They arent listening to you, they're just this good at predicting your interests"?

Well, it happens they were doing exactly that.

Reminder: There's no such thing as a "moderate" ideology. There exists no set of ideas upon which moderates agree. That's why efforts to create centrist parties always fail.

A "moderate" Dem is one who embraces Republican policies. The real question: What are those policies?

If humanities were useless AI companies would not be scrambling to ingest all the work of writers/thinkers/artists/journalists/etc. They, in fact, cannot do anything without that kind of work. But devaluing it is a great way to get people to give it to you for free/little $$, or justify stealing it
The U.S. has successfully convinced its people that “the humanities are frivolous and STEM is Important and Real” is basically a law of nature: this is absolute nonsense that we should stop putting up with.
