this but like the opposite. It would be nice if some of the Twitter holdouts would finally leave the pedophile nazi app and come to bluesky. It's disturbing how many creatives that enriched the experience are still active there. Reach out to friends who have lost their moral compass!
John Carmack continues to be a giant disappointment. Romero is King of Doom Johns.

I find the example of regular people standing up as inspiring as anyone, but it's deeply shameful that it's come to this. When those with the most power—and, therefore, safety—refuse to take a stand it puts everyone else in line to get chewed up.

Today once again proved that everyday citizens protesting their government are braver than the titans who own the largest media corporations, run the biggest law firms and lead the most powerful technology companies.

Abolish and prosecute ICE. They did a murder in broad daylight today. Imagine what they're doing in the closed facilities we're somehow not even allowed to see.

RIP Béla Tarr. I first saw The Werckmeister Harmonies in downtown Manhattan, a month or so after 9/11. A strange, slow, melancholy film that's haunted and inspired me ever since.

I'm surprised this has to be said but when people say genAI art is "soulless" they are usually not making a religious argument. It's just shorthand for the feeling of "I can sense nobody made this, it feels empty," which is an aesthetic/visceral response that requires no appeal to spirituality!

One of my all-time favorite films.
The opening scene from Werckmeister Harmonies has a permanent residence in my head, a stunning film on all counts.

Do seek out more than Sátántangó if you are looking into Béla Tarr's filmography for the first time in the wake of his death.

what a thing, to love so deeply, to know that the choices are to lose it or to pick up tools and fix it yourself, even though the skills are beyond you, and then to overcome fear and take that step anyway

These artists are showing more bravery in confronting Trump than the Democratic congressional leadership has ever demonstrated.

I waited for some downtime to play Time Flies (timeflies.buzz) and I'm glad I did. It's a quietly amazing thing—charming, clever, tender, and funny, and that's all before the final act hits you unexpectedly in the gut. A game that makes me want to make games, and my favorite in a long time.
Time Flies – A game about our limited time in this world.
Available now for PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch, Steam, Epic Games Store, and Mac App Store. A game by Michael Frei and Raphaël Munoz, produced by Playables.

Year 1 data on congestion pricing in Manhattan…

* Vehicle traffic: -11%
* Foot traffic: +3.4%
* Storefront vacancy: -0.9%
* Pollution: -22%
* Revenue for mass transit: $548M

So YES this has been a huge success.

No, I think the art is bad because it feels utterly derivative and aesthetically vacant. I might conclude that's because an LLM has no consciousness or experience of being alive to express, but that's not a "religious belief." That's just me trying to puzzle out why the art sucks shit.
if you think the art is bad "because it lacks the touch of a human soul" that is a perfectly valid religious belief but not one anyone who does not share your faith-based ideas about the human soul needs to accept as any sort of a convincing argument

Any time you work on anything, you are going to hit those "UH OH" moments where your stomach drops as you see a similar project that makes yours feel derivative and uninteresting and doomed to fail.

That's normal! Regroup, adapt, persevere! Your perspective has value!
