Digging through my digital giveaways this evening I decided to go through Venba, or "what if someone else did Cooking Mama but it was charming and compelling enough for me to care."
I'll admit that even with instructions I still botched some recipes, but it was otherwise short (~90 mins) & sweet.

Venba is a short narrative puzzle game where you try to make a bunch of tamil recipes using your grandmother's cookbook. It's a beautiful game and can be played beginning to end in one sitting, which I did because once I started it I couldn't stop.

Game 190: Venba
This had been on my list of games to play for a while and when I finally sat down to play it, I couldn't stop.
The story had me locked in and I loved the aspect of uncovering/remembering recipes as I went along with the plot.
An absolute must play imho.

Not me over here almost crying at seeing Venba again. I don't ever expect to see myself in media—marginalized kid with no ego for that—but, it has the self-indulgent warmth of serendipitously meeting a friend when I do; and, this one was such a beautiful ride of familiar emotions.
