Extremely quiet in the neighborhood. Usually many visitors and cars.
Nothing this year.

The failure to prepare in advance for the vetting and evacuation of Afghan allies when they knew they were negotiating an imminent withdrawal was a failure of the first Trump Administration, before it left office.

No idea why an Afghan refugee shot National Guard soldiers within walking distance of the White House, but this new USCIS directive was revealed on Monday. Worth noting.
The folks at @afghanevac.bsky.social have in hand a new USCIS directive which largely targets Afghan refugees who fled the Taliban in the wake of the U.S. withdrawal in 2021.

In case you needed a reminder that the most loathsome people in the world work for DHS.

Trump responds, in character, with the collective punishment of all Afghans, whose plight he worsened by selling the government in Kabul out to the Taliban in the last days of his first term.

big late breaking news: the market monitor for the largest energy grid in the u.s., covering much of the midwest and mid-atlantic, has called to block new data centers connections to the grid, saying current course of growth assures regular blackouts
No more PJM data centers unless they can be reliably served: market monitor
The PJM Interconnection’s market monitor urged the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission to rule that large data centers can only come online if the grid operator can still meet reliability metrics.

This is an awful way to go into the Thanksgiving holiday. My thoughts are with these military families.
The shooting of two National Guard members in our nation’s capital is deeply distressing, and my heart is with these Guardsmen, their families, and their fellow soldiers as they wait for news no family should ever have to brace for.

Place National Guard in harm’s way for no good reason. Two members are tragically and unnecessarily shot. The reckless regime’s response: We’re sending 500 more National Guard troops! What a disgrace.

Now not only are they there for no reason at all, they're also risking their lives for no reason at all.
one thing to remember about the Guard deployment in DC is that they aren’t actually doing anything beyond picking up trash and strolling around the touristy areas, they could all go home tomorrow and it wouldn’t materially effect the city
