I know multiple game devs who took new jobs and had their start dates delayed because the big AAA studios couldn't source RAM for their workstation.
Been saying for months this will soon trickle down to "regular" non-tech jobs, and eventually buying a smartphone. Next they'll force cloud compute.

I understand framing the AI bubble RAM supply crisis in terms of stuff like video game consoles because nerds can conceptualize that but the framing does really undersell the sheer magnitude of how it's going to fuck up everything that even touches a computer.

I do like that the big bet on AI replacing the entire software industry requires everyone to take for granted that random people across every industry can imagine useful applications and then describe them in sufficient detail to make them real. I love this optimism for us

ran into a friend at a cafe who mentioned his wife is having an emotional affair with chatgpt, missed that the "chat model was much hornier last spring," and that they're getting divorced but her chat & his chat negotiated the terms of the divorce over several weeks. They were together for 18 yrs.
most cafe conversations blend into the background for me, but as soon as a man starts the “do you use ChatGPT? I’ve started using it for…” conversation within a 10 table radius, I feel my brain short circuiting

As a Canadian, as a rule, I don't cheer for US athletes. I have very few exceptions. Hunter Hess is now one of them, because I want him to wear a gold medal around his neck every day for the rest of the Trump regime.

I was reminded of a book I read 20 years ago, "Judas Unchained". It's a sequel to a book I thought was excellent, "Pandora's Star".
I just left a review on goodreads for it because I was also reminded of one of the characters. I hated him so much. He's a whiny, entitled man-child.

I have what my audiologist now terms "profound" hearing loss. I am basically deaf without my hearing aids. I still play guitar and write music and mix tracks and study every day engineering, and it is immensely fulfilling despite my "disability." I have never wanted or "needed" to use AI. fuck you
