Hi everyone

Here is this week's blog, centred around the consequences of dumbing down your Tier 2 and 3 words with students. Enjoy and please share if you find it useful!

❤️ Love this ❤️

@mathforge.org has done what I’ve never been organised enough to do myself, and catalogued every #geometrypuzzle I’ve ever posted on social media. It looks amazing!

Got to test something new in #mathstoday. Normally, to decide which transformation to linearise a data set, I'd just show a circle of transformations where each quadrant has the options listed. I recently stumbled upon Tukey and Mosteller's bulging rule and ladder of powers and it's /so/ much easier

I've discovered some people call it a convex angle, which makes some sense, although it suggests a reflex angle should be called concave.
Incidentally, did you know that angles that add uo to 360° are called explementary?

Would appreciate any reposts to try and get to the bottom of this
I've got an annoying stats problem at the moment relating to seasonal adjustment of time series about calculating seasonal indices over multiple years. It feels very niche, so any insights are appreciated #mathstoday #mathsconf39 #iteachmath #ukmathschat

Loved discussing some excellent maths tasks in @nathanday.bsky.social’s session. Great to have the opportunity to dig into what makes them so good and how they could be adapted. #MathsConf39

A very short primer on mixing degrees of arc with degrees of angle for circle theorems.
#UKMathsChat #iTeachMath

Historically degrees measured arcs and arcs measured angles. This might feel uncomfortable but remember how we measure an angle today … with a protractor … measuring around an arc.

Hmm, vibes. Open up an arithmetic text from the 18th century then scroll through the old Regents exams on jmap.org. It's not like CCSS has changed math teaching in any real way.

Did a couple of the main ones last night so the basic defns and suvat. Not carefully checked and the equations are "rough" but can put a bit more effort in / share the slides file if you want. The aim is to summarise the relationships for review/reflection, not meant to primary learn from.
