The fact people try to argue that a city with 68,000 people is better than a city with 650,000 is hilarious to me

That house looks like it actually fits the lot and will match the neighborhood character, it could be so much worse.

I'll Be Gone In The Dark on HBO is also excellent, mostly because it's about finding the killer, not the killer himself

The 2866 a 1912 Alco product, with tall 77" drivers for speed. It weighs about half as much as 9011, and has less than half the tractive effort as the 4-12-2 does. I guess all of the Big Boys were busy and this strange combo is a near-equal replacement.

Going to try to get in the habit of sharing one classic photo per week. Starting off with the strangest double-header I've ever seen- Union Pacific 4-6-2 #2866 and 4-12-2 #9011 pull an 81 car freight near Archer WY on VJ day, September 2 1945. digital.denverlibrary.org/nodes/view/1...
A black and white image of two steam locomotives pulling a freight train. The front locomotive is a small passenger loco, with tall drivers. The locomotive behind it is a much bigger freight loco, with a much larger boiler and tender. Behind them is a string of gondolas at the front of a long freight train stretching to the horizon. The photo was taken in in the foothills of Wyoming, on what seems to be a clear day.

You can count on one hand the number of songs that have had the impact the Macarena had. The way the dance craze blew up is fascinating.

They have a big building west of town that's impossible to photograph easily, who knows what secrets it holds. If it does survive hopefully it's in better shape than the stuff they've been storing outdoors and unlocked by the boat launch.

Did you put the ampersand in the wrong spot? Your Wikipedia page suggests it might be in Wells Michigan, which is right next to Escanaba and the E&LS.

Trainspotters in Minnesota are probably aware of the Cedar Rapids, the famous Milwaukee Road "Skytop Lounge", now owned and operated by the Friends of the 261.

BUT! That's not the only one still around. Join me for a story of history and mystery, as not all are accounted for... 🧵
Cedar Rapids, 3/4 rear shot at SPUD train days a number of years ago Coffee Creek, under renovation by Aberdeen, Carolina, and Western painted 1/3 white with lower 2/3 red Coon Rapids in the UP scheme on the Michigan Northern, ca. 1980 close up of Dell Rapids gold embossed lettering

Wait they still survive? I remember seeing a photo of them 10+ years ago and thought surely they'd be long gone by now.

"oh it's a meme on X". Yeah I'm not letting X define culture. "Oh it wasn't intended as one" well that was a stupid thing to post then I'm not going to feel bad.

Why are multiple people trying to guilt trip us into feeling bad for someone who was rightfully banned? Zero tolerance for death threats is good policy.

Black smoke from an exhaust is lib-owning, white smoke like that is probably a blown head gasket. They're going to have a very bad, very expensive trip to a mechanic soon.

Am I remembering correctly that there was zero reaction from Bluesky when that all went down? Jay's big idea totally collapsed and they just ignored it.

Lol Link knows he's wrong and is trying to save his skin

And that wasn't a tiptoe, that was a full leap across the line.

She never wanted to run a social media site, and they should have split ATproto and Bluesky 18+ months ago.

Or is using composable moderation illegal?

I was hoping the Honda dealership would be lit up enough but looking at Google Maps that seems unlikely. They will probably spend a couple hours there in Hopkins Sunday before heading back into Minneapolis, I'll start there and see if I get lucky.
warpedhorizon.bsky.social
Thank you! I was hoping it would return Monday to make catching it easier, but I guess once the boiler's got they must as well run. I wonder if there's enough light pollution in Hopkins to catch it after sunset...
warpedhorizon.bsky.social
I'm pleasantly surprised they're moving it under its own steam. Do you happen to know when they're coming back on Monday?

Milwaukee 261 roared through Nicollet Island around noon today on the way to Hopkins from Minneapolis Junction. Some unwise persons standing on the tracks while fishing from the Mississippi East Channel Bridge got whistled at.

The potholes are really cool! And that's it. Unless you're in a boat.

They should have split ATproto and Bluesky before they opened to the public. Two separate products needing two separate teams and two different types of leadership.
