Good to know. I think Miliband wing of Labour will grow as party members & MPs see that Starmer's attempts to claw back Farage's voters is a dead end that pumps oxygen into 🇬🇧 fascism. I doubt Starmer will be leading Labour into next GE so now's the time to build the alliances we'll need in 2029.

For curious, this odd 'Mezzy' @ateliermichi.bsky.social trailing after me here appears to be some kind of scam account? Typically astute analysis from @alanderminna.bsky.social 👇

"So far the main concept for deterrence by punishment has been “deterrence by attribution”, i.e. threatening reputational costs by naming and shaming. Unfortunately, Russia is clearly quite far beyond the point of caring about reputation."

Great new Europe Dispatch column by @alanderminna.bsky.social just appeared (all free). This week she discusses the challenges in implementing a Deterrence by Punishment policy towards Russia--though that of course does not mean it should not be tried. open.substack.com/pub/phillips...
Easier Said Than Done: Hybrid Deterrence By Punishment
This week, Minna Ålander turns to the question of how to move from defensive reactions to Russian hybrid warfare to an effective deterrent. (Spoiler: not easy)

Time to sink a tanker in the waterway of each port then.

(Yes, I know: massive environmental disaster. But if that's the price of ending this war, so be it.)

Nigel Farage accuses teachers of "poisoning our kids" on race issues.

Here's a reminder of what teachers and fellow pupils at Farage's own school remember of his own views on that subject.

Ukraine's Foreign Minister picks up on my statement from above, likening Russia's strike to attempted genocide.

Again, the world will shrug and not do much. Some more statements, some sanctions, some generators. A band-aid on a gaping wound.

Electricity has already been restored for 270,000 subscribers in Kyiv.

The casualties in the capital were all in this apartment block in Pechersk, at the time of the attack.

Quite rightly, there are already questions being raised in Ukraine, particularly in Kyiv, about how the country's energy has become so vulnerable.

One MP has complained that at one of the capital's Thermal Power Plants, "Shaheds" destroyed "completely unprotected" transformers.

Are you thinking "TFI Friday"? Well in Ukraine it's just another day of lying in a trench, piloting a drone, evacuating hot spots, treating the wounded, or trying to keep the family safe.

And it's Day 1325 of this, following another night of little sleep for Kyiv. Here's the🧵

Both Russia and Ukraine had successful strikes yesterday, which made the energy crisis more acute for both sides.

While Ukraine's hits hurt Putin's war chest, the strikes by Russia cause real hardship for civilians.

Day 1324 of Russia's three-day plan to capture Kyiv.

1,321 days behind schedule, Moscow's imperialist army is still stuck in the mud of Donetsk oblast, a region they first invaded 11.5 years ago.

Due to the overnight Russian attacks, hundreds of thousands have no power in Ukraine, many no gas or even water too.

Even when reconnected, enforced blackouts will happen to "share energy" in Kyiv, Donetsk, Dnipropetrovsk, Cherkasy, Chernihiv, Kharkiv, Sumy, Poltava and Odessa regions.

We are expecting the exact figures of missiles and drones fired by Russia within a few minutes. But we do know over 450 drones + 30 missiles were fired at Ukraine.

One child died and more than 20 were injured in the overnight attack.
Here are pictures from Kyiv.

Russia's losses increased a little in the last 24 hours, reflecting more movement and assaults on the frontline.

The invaders lost over 1,120 more men and a few more vehicles, but made more ground in 3 areas along the line of contact.

🇺🇦says a further 4 missiles did not reach the target.

Interesting to note in the far east of Russia, workers at a power plant went on strike, staged a sleep-in + threatened to throw themselves off the roof.

The 60+ employees in Primorye are protesting at not being paid. It's alleged client SibEra is delaying payments to the plant.

While I stayed up most of the night, details of the attack on Cherkasy came a little later.

10 people were injured here, including a boy aged 10.

Although energy infrastructure was targeted, 8 high-rise buildings, including apartment blocks, were damaged.

You can see it was intense. Kyiv and 7 other cities are highlighted as suffering the worst damage.

Tragedy in Zaporizhzhia where a young child was killed.

Even more heart-breaking, the 7 year old boy was the son of a Ukraine soldier, who'd only recently been released from 3 years as a POW in Russia.

He and his wife are both injured and in hospital.

Three of the injuries came from missile strikes on Kryvyi Rih this morning, where warehouses were damaged.

Two more men were injured earlier, in a private house in Samar.

The usual artillery and grad rockets flew into Nikopol.
Energy targets were hit in Dnipro + Kryvyi Rih.
