over the course of 1871, congress held seven months of hearings on ku klux klan and other white vigilante violence in the south, they took detailed testimony from hundreds of black men and women attesting to klan terror. (1/?)

I really do think that dems should be making carrot/stick “if you’re disgusted and this is not what you signed up for, quit now and turn whistleblower and that will be remembered later” and “if you follow and illegal order, that will also be remembered later” messaging
i suppose the hunch is, or has to be, that some weak support exists in ice too, and can be peeled off. disorganizing their shit seems to be the quickest way to totally humiliate the regime

ICE are thug scum
A woman recording an ICE agent tells him "Shame on you."

The agent responds, "Have you all not learned from the past couple of days?"

"Learned what?" she asks

Then he knocks her phone out of her hand

The things we are defending are so very basic. The old John Locke stuff. Government by consent of the governed. Not voluntarily enslaving ourselves to the whims of armed agents of the state. Which the other side gladly and willingness does, which is why we shall overcome.
When Renee Good said "I'm not mad at you" what the ICE goon heard was "I'm not scared of you."

That's what enraged him. The populace wasn't fully terrorized and cowed into submission yet, so he acted to make that happen.

At this point, I'm voting for any candidate that runs on implementing Nuremberg-style trials for the current administration. Either we live in a country where evil has consequences or we don't.

So, the Trump decision from the First Department Appellate Division. Hoooooo-leeee shit is this decision a mess. It also uses a procedural mechanism I've never seen before, very cleverly. Long story short is that this is a decision specifically designed to be appealed. 1/x

Charlie Kirk didn't deserve to be murdered, regardless of how vile his beliefs were. But the biggest newspaper in the country publishing an article upholding his career as doing politics "the right way" is really highlighting a moral rot in our politics that goes way beyond the politicians we elect.

@delaneynolan.bsky.social mentions one guy who made *$255,000* in a single year mostly off eviction fees.

The conservative movement has turned against reality on every scientific issue of our time, from gun violence to climate change to epidemiology.

If campuses are ideologically homogenous, it's not because academia has ostracized conservatives. It's because conservatives have ostracized academia.

Restrictions on repro rights and citizenship are historically related. Comstock was enacted during a nativist fervor and defended as a means of bolstering White population growth. Not long after Comstock, the exec branch decided US-born children of Chinese workers weren't birthright citizens.
Ok so back to the Comstock Act:

Comstock would prohibit the mailing of any abortion pills or abortion related supplies. Since Congress exempted contraception from the Comstock Act, what's the easiest way to use the Comstock Act to attack contraception access?

Reclassify birth control as abortions.
