So, the Trump decision from the First Department Appellate Division. Hoooooo-leeee shit is this decision a mess. It also uses a procedural mechanism I've never seen before, very cleverly. Long story short is that this is a decision specifically designed to be appealed. 1/x

Charlie Kirk didn't deserve to be murdered, regardless of how vile his beliefs were. But the biggest newspaper in the country publishing an article upholding his career as doing politics "the right way" is really highlighting a moral rot in our politics that goes way beyond the politicians we elect.

Seriously wild story: Louisiana officials called “justices of the peace” can pad their own wallets by allowing evictions to proceed.

@delaneynolan.bsky.social mentions one guy who made *$255,000* in a single year mostly off eviction fees.

The conservative movement has turned against reality on every scientific issue of our time, from gun violence to climate change to epidemiology.

If campuses are ideologically homogenous, it's not because academia has ostracized conservatives. It's because conservatives have ostracized academia.

Restrictions on repro rights and citizenship are historically related. Comstock was enacted during a nativist fervor and defended as a means of bolstering White population growth. Not long after Comstock, the exec branch decided US-born children of Chinese workers weren't birthright citizens.
Ok so back to the Comstock Act:

Comstock would prohibit the mailing of any abortion pills or abortion related supplies. Since Congress exempted contraception from the Comstock Act, what's the easiest way to use the Comstock Act to attack contraception access?

Reclassify birth control as abortions.
