Moral injury is very real, especially if you have to make difficult choices about whether to work inside or outside a system. If you work for any of the agencies or contractors roped into this, you have choices to make. Find somebody you trust to confide in.
"I urge any who are involved in the administration of the current immigration enforcement regime at any level to seek the counsel of their clergy, given my urgent pastoral concern for the moral and spiritual injury that their participation is causing them." - Bp. Rob Price of Dallas, 1/1/2026

The Bible verses, omg. Sackcloths and ashes. bsky.app/profile/andy...
Judge Biery signed the order with a photo of Liam and two bible verses: The first is "But Jesus said, Suffer little children, and forbid them not, to come unto me: for of such is the kingdom of heaven." The second is simply "Jesus wept."

Astonishing thing for a judge to do.

This is aesthetically brilliant, though probably not especially durable or energy efficient. But still, I think Belgian houses don’t deserve their reputation. Some of them aren’t ugly.
I can only assume there were lots of weird-shaped uPVC windows available for a massive discount?

ok is now a time to say I 100% believe this caused /pol/ to exist because a few years ago someone texted me to say they were with moot at a party and asked if I wanted to relay anything and I said “yeah tell him to ban gamergate shit off 4chan” flippantly AND THEN HE FUCKING DID

My 7yo daughter’s best friends’ family fled the country a few weeks ago. Today she came home with a drawing of her and another friend blowing whistles at ICE agents.

“We’re blowing the whistles and so ICE will go away and our friends can come back,” she said.

I started sobbing uncontrollably.

Had not seen that comparison before but why not.
Junker-ass country. It's on us in the EU to ensure that we don't let our latter-day East Elbian Junkers drag us down and that we build a 21st-century economy of renewables, biotech, fintech, and robotics.
This is a very literal catastrophe, insanity, suicide.

And the US — under a Trump Administration, congress, and financial system controlled by corporate polluters — is leading the way off the cliff.

All of this is against my religion, episode eleventy-seven.
Today, UUA President Rev. Dr. Sofía Betancourt was arrested in Washington, D.C., alongside other people of faith protesting the DHS budget that funds ICE and CBP. “There is no moral justification,” she said. This is a developing story: https://bit.ly/3NKDUDj #UU #FaithInAction #Immigration #ICEOut

in 1215 the magna carta established habeas corpus, best understood as "the king's end of the bargain in return for us not killing him"
not an accident that habeas corpus is one of the absolute foundational rights--and not an accident that ICE is working overtime to undermine it as much as possible
Excellent explanation of how ICE moves immigrants from one prison facility to another to deny them access to justice.

To people saying that requiring judicial warrants doesn't help much in other contexts, I just have to say, I think you may not entirely grasp just how extremely much less due process there is around immigration stuff even compared to the already shitty contexts you are more used to?

I'm starting to get the impression that backlash in the US may actually have some nonzero effect on public opinion about immigration *in other countries*. Never underestimate the enduring soft power of US culture...

I had never previously heard of such a thing but an organization with both employees and volunteers inserting a clause into an employee's contract that forbids them doing the same category of work as a volunteer is... very sensible, actually.

i can confirm the chats I’m in which include renowned security specialists - people who actually advise on how to protect your comms from authoritarian dictators for a living - also think this outburst of paranoia about Signal is really weird and unwarranted
every Signal chat of laypeople is losing their minds over the wildest opsec advice imaginable and every Signal chat of security professionals is like “dude wtf”

The vast majority of problems can be avoided by not being foolish, being aware of your surroundings, and using common sense

This administration is stark raving mad, and it is controlled by men - Vance, Miller, Bovino - are all-but-publicly taking orders from neo-Nazis bent on violent removal of nonwhite Americans. The admin barely hides many of these links. And it is driving a campaign of ethnic violence in our country.

For reference, Minneapolis's "Metro Surge" was 25x larger than Chicago's Midway Blitz - ten times as many agents in a city almost a third the size.

The Springfield metro is only 136,000 people. A 1000-agent surge will be the equivalent of TWO HUNDRED MIDWAY BLITZES at once. Utter insanity.

Almost every reliable source from Iran that I follow is still posting videos and stories of atrocities committed by the regime; each worse than the last.

I’m afraid we still haven’t seen the full extent of the massacre in Iran.

There was no gun control law, constitutional or not, that Mr Petri violated. It’s not even about the second amendment. It’s about officials making up rules that don’t exist.
Without the principle of “nulla poena sine lege” what you have is not just bad law, or unconstitutional law: it’s literally not even law.
