yes i did work there. you’ll never guess why i got fired.
There’s weapons of mass destruction in them there pies 😜

(I’ve never had a pumpkin pie I liked, except for the ones @vjpsyverson.bsky.social makes. But he cheats, I think. At least, today I saw him buy a butternut squash to make “pumpkin pie” with so I call shenanigans.)
Just FYI:

My most controversial tweet ever, from Thanksgiving three years ago, back when Twitter was Twitter and Bluesky didn’t exist.

_____________

Pies ranked.

1. Cherry (if not too sweet).
2. Mixed berry.
3. Peach/blackberry.
4. Peach.
5. Apple.

9. Key lime.

99. Pecan.

999. Pumpkin.

It’s really kind of silly that we have driverless cars in busy, messy city streets full of pedestrians and cyclists and unexpected obstacles, but on closed metro area passenger rails networks with full grade separation everywhere we still need drivers somehow.
Full automation will bring other major capital benefits for WMATA as well, including hundreds of millions of dollars of savings in rolling stock and yard expansion costs thanks thanks to needing fewer trains from faster operations.

This is the future all transit operators should aim for

as usual i wish people who say no to this actually understood what it is they’re asking for. they want to create a situation where the bathroom one is legally vs socially expected to use become MORE often different. this “identify” language encourages that answer.
the Ipsos Pride survey is genuinely an awesome product, but jesus the difference in the UK/US on trans issues is nuts

The thing is, people care about that war cemetery. The wait list for “adopting” a grave, which involves bringing flowers on Memorial Day, is currently maxed out at one thousand. There are local history buffs that study it in great detail and know very well the graves were dug by black soldiers.

This is, I must stress, not an especially diverse or progressive part of the country. It is known for rolling hills covered in picturesque farms and orchards, not for social justice activism. But people have not forgotten WW2, nor who liberated their towns.

I think a local politician appointing the minister (not just a member!) of a church that has homophobic statements of doctrine on their local congregation’s website is, uh… a thing to talk about. Not sure y’all are ready for that?

I am no less queer because I'm an economist, we've been doing this discourse for a week now and i'm getting piss fucking tired of it. I don't have to hand in my queer card because i don't fit your particular flavor of leftism. bsky.app/profile/sky....
Something I’ve commented before is this site in particular has a sort of funhouse mirror “model minority” thing going on where if I don’t check all the boxes that someone wants I’m somehow “not really queer”, like, bite me.
I am allowed to believe things like “free markets generally maximize welfare outcomes” without surrendering my queerness and it’s frankly deeply insulting to say I’m not who I am because eg. I have an Econ degree. Even the fash on Twitter don’t go that far (granted, they’re just calling me slurs…)

it’s really hard to keep track of what’s going on in international relations news if major media outlets keep operating on the mistaken assumption that different parts of the us government actually talk to each other and coordinate their statements with the state department

The European counterproposal definitely makes more sense, in the sense that less of it is entirely devoid of meaning.

* You know how Van Halen had a contract rider demanding bowls of M&Ms with the brown ones removed?

They later claimed that was all a test to make sure venues were reading their contracts. Clever!

BUT WAIT, that claim itself is actually false. I fact-checked it.

When Oakland had a fight over demolishing the ruin that was once Biff's coffee shop, I started calling the preservationists who were older than the building "historic".

They did not like that.

The US government removed two displays about black soldiers from the visitors center at the US war cemetery near my home town. People got big mad. Believe it or not, this is in important site for the descendants of the deceased AND for locals. There is now a new exhibit just outside the cemetery. 🤷‍♀️

I once knew a Federal bank examiner, and one time someone asked him why we had to KEEP inspecting banks over and over. He basically said every new batch of business school grads invents bank fraud from first principles.
AirBnB CEO calling it “vibe revenue” just 👨‍🍳 😘

The underlying cause of every bubble - debt masquerading as financial innovation - depends on not just short financial memory & speculative neophytism, but reinventing jargon of finance, like how each generation of kids has new ways to say same things.

Nominally yes, but the Supreme Court has created this bastard doctrine called qualified immunity, which makes it nearly impossible to sue police for violating your rights until an appeals court in the jurisdiction finds that the right was "clearly established" to exist

The state is not a tumour on a preexisting society that can be separated and extracted from it, it's a form of social organisation that forms part of a society.

Sacramento County approved a big solar panel and grid battery site. People are complaining about cutting of trees. You might think that means there is currently a forest. These are pictures of the actual landscape in question, which is currently a sheep ranch.
I looked at where this is to be built. This is what it looks like. You’re making it sound like a forest.
