Moral injury is very real, especially if you have to make difficult choices about whether to work inside or outside a system. If you work for any of the agencies or contractors roped into this, you have choices to make. Find somebody you trust to confide in.

I wrote this in an essay a while back, and I stand by it. We don't transition for the sexual satisfaction of cis men, NONE of us do, transfem or masc, and we must never let patriarcharchs think we give a fuck about their approval.

After John Paul II appointed Archbishop Cordileone to San Francisco, one of Cordileone's early acts was to put sprinklers on the outside of SF's Catholic cathedral, the Cathedral of St. Mary of the Assumption.
Apparently the whole reason everybody has to mention their ethnic affiliations is that the campaign to remove bike lanes claims, based on seemingly nothing, to have anti-racist motivations. People who want to FEEL progressive but BE conservative are unfortunately a fixture of CA local politics.
Next up is Ele (sp?). She says she lives in North Central, is a person of color, and a biker. She says that she's almost been hit on her bike many times, and that the street conditions are terrible. She says she feels much safer with the bike lane. It's essential for her and her children.

it's literally just doctors and nurses torturing trannies to try and get them to give up and be normal. that's all it ever was. it's not some kind of diagnostic tool or treatment. it's just humiliation and torture to get you to desist

Seeing all the “professional” activists go after Stancil is negatively polarizing me into a stance that Minnesota is winning because it’s normal people rising to the occasion and pushing a lot of activist nonsense out of the way by doing it

I still occasionally confuse "50-50-1" (the joint protest march organizing committees) with "5150" (California hospitalese for an involuntary psychiatric hold). I swear my brain is mostly fairly functional, though.

When feds disturb a food distribution event at a UMC church and people go “I bet they’ll still vote for Trump,” I feel bad about both the excesses of New Atheism and the cultural dominance of Evangelicalism. I disagree with them about the Jesus stuff also, but UMC are no bible thumping hypocrites!

The Montreal Canadiens are playing the Minnesota Wild in Minneapolis tonight. The players have been recommended to stay in/eat at the hotel, take the team bus to the arena, and carry passports.
Perhaps we shouldn't be hosting the World Cup and the Olympics...

I genuinely have no idea how to convey this to the American people, but I think the biggest impediment to any kind of immigration reform is that people are convinced that "legal" and "illegal" are immutable, intrinsic categories instead of a rapidly-shifting arbitrary constellation of regulations.

Just now in WaPo, I read a sentence starting "prominent Catholics, from Vice President JD Vance and podcaster Stephen K. Bannon to Kansas City Chiefs kicker Harrison Butker..." and I have to say, whatever else I may think about WaPo these days, "podcaster Stephen K. Bannon" is a fun turn of phrase.

How long until some talking head trying to find the sensible explanation for every deranged thing the president says insists he must’ve been talking about Mercedes cargo vans?

Every time some professor of something has a paper out about how housing is the one good that violates the most basic principles of microeconomics, it’s not in an economics journal with peer review by economists and you gotta wonder why.

I still don't know how the town of Nice, CA is pronounced. Wikipedia says it's named for Nice in France, but that doesn't tell you anything. Los Banos is definitely "los baños" but many people around there say "loss ban noss," and Coalinga is pronounced like it's Spanish, but it's "coaling A."

Happy St Brigid’s Day! St Brigid helped spread Christianity in Ireland, becoming the abbess of a powerful convent. When a nun came to her, pregnant and scared, St Brigid laid hands on her belly, prayed, and induced a miraculous abortion.

Always be mindful of folks purporting to "report" election results without any links—and be especially wary of accounts using the passive voice ("the race has been projected") without citing any sources.

Judge Biery signed the order with a photo of Liam and two bible verses: The first is "But Jesus said, Suffer little children, and forbid them not, to come unto me: for of such is the kingdom of heaven." The second is simply "Jesus wept."
This is aesthetically brilliant, though probably not especially durable or energy efficient. But still, I think Belgian houses don’t deserve their reputation. Some of them aren’t ugly.
I can only assume there were lots of weird-shaped uPVC windows available for a massive discount?
