The govt’s plans to means test benefits for 18 & 19 yos will put disabled, queer, Māori & other marginalised young adults at risk.

While I’m glad the disability rights angle of this issue has got traction (and was glad to speak to TVNZ) the Minister’s response was appalling. #nzpol

Fucksake. It's quite clear now that they only looked at this benefit policy as political marketing and took no advice on who it would impact – which includes young people with serious health issues and disabilities. Just feckless and cynical. Shame on them. www.rnz.co.nz/news/politic...
Hundreds of teens with a health condition, disability may be cut from Jobseeker benefit
The government is ending Jobseeker payments to 18- and 19 year olds whose parents earn more than $65,000.

If we reject doxxing because it risks violence/vandalism against those we are aligned with, follow, love, are partial to, vote for, believe in, & respect, it must be the same yardstick for everyone. I've studied doxxing in NZ for years, & have always proactively warned folks targeted, & at risk.

Everybody makes money out of academic authors except the authors...News.

Wiley is the latest academic publisher to reach a multi-million deal to allow access to its content to AI developers, with no opt out, let alone payment, for the authors who created that content.

When they signalled this in the budget we @dpanz.bsky.social raised concern because of the dangerous & detrimental position this also puts disabled, queer, and young adults experiencing abuse in.

Absolutely wild that young *adults* are now forced to be financially tied to parents at 18 & 19yo.

#nzpol The government has announced that 18/19 year olds, who live in a household where the parents earn $65,529 or more, can't claim jobseekers support. If both parents work 27 hours on the minimum wage - $634 a week - they will be expected to now financially support their adult offspring. A 🧵

The lie was so blatant that employers are speaking out. Makes no difference to Luxon who appears happy to lie to NZ at the same time as removing crucial support from young adults based on those lies.

Very much this... And with the current political context in NZ and demands for things like "neutrality" and regressive gender politics, this situation is going to get worse.

Political violence has no place in Aotearoa. Neither does incitement to violence. David Seymour joking about blowing up ministries was wrong. Martyn Bradbury encouraging people to spit in politicians' food was wrong. Full stop.

Its nothing to do with sympathy for peters, he deserves none, its everything to do with deciding what sort of society we want.
I dont want to live in a country where our politicians are walled off from the public because we've decided violence is ok.

Since the election, there are 37,243 fewer 15-19 year olds in filled jobs. The jobs market for young people is as bad - if not worse - than the GFC. So adding 6% to the cost of tuition fees and halving apprenticeship boost support makes life even harder. Brilliant work National.

Apart from massive job losses out of the economy, changes to youth benefit come in the wake of: polytech closures, less funding for mental health, no extra funding for universities, changes to NCEA that mess with vocational training (hospitality) & force YP into SL debt

Under National's policy to prevent 18-19 yr olds from accessing Jobseeker Support, I think people under 20 should pay far less tax than adults over 20yrs to reflect they don't have access to the safety net of Jobseeker Support like every other Kiwi adult
