It’s been a shit few days here at #COP30 so when I got the pānui that my iwi are taking the Crown to Court to protect our taiao and future generations it was pretty special.

A real demonstration of everything we’re preaching here - Indigenous Peoples are holding the line where states are failing!

Note the invitation to complain to the HRC about "discrimination on the ground of sex, including gender identity, gender expression and innate variations of sex characteristics" at the end.

I will certainly be doing so.

One of the things cis women have long fought for bodily autonomy with are cries such as "get your laws off my body" & "my body, my choice" ... trans folks are no different.

This is why the ban on puberty blockers for trans folks is so incredibly stupid and ideological.

Halt to puberty blockers curses 'young transgender women to stigma'
That's the reaction of a model who used puberty blockers as a teen to rules halting new prescriptions for young people.

COP21 Paris, France
COP22 Morocco
COP23 Germany (Fiji Presidency)
COP24 Poland
COP25 Spain (Chile Presidency)
COP26 Scotland
COP27 Egypt
COP28 UAE
COP29 Azerbaijan
COP30 Brazil

All but 2 COPs since the Paris Agreement have been Europe or Middle East and now COP31 will be Türkiye, not Aus-Pacific

It would be great if COP hosts really demonstrate they will have plenty of accommodation available...So when you get locked out of your apartment at 1am it’s not impossible to get an emergency hotel!

Saved by the grace of the Indigenous grapevine tonight! 🙏🏼

Will finish my rant tomorrow 😴
November 20, 2025 at 4:59 AM
It’s too early yet to know what to make of tonight’s news that Türkiye will physically host #COP31, with Australia as President & some partnership with the Pacific. But at least for my community, this is a really tough blow at a critical time & it will reduce our participation.

Glad I got to become disabled in a world that already had Alice Wong @sfdirewolf.bsky.social in it. I learned so much from her incredible writing & activism. May her memory be a blessing, & may we all continue her work.

In the last chapter of Alice’s memoir, “Year of the Tiger,” she wrote her own future obituary.

The wonderful “oracle, storyteller, cyborg, trouble-maker, activist, night owl” we loved so much closed it with:

“Enjoy all of Alice’s good shit, and may you create some good shit as well.”

This is genuinely so devastating. I'm so grateful to Alice for her sharing of wisdom and support and insight all while fighting for and with us all. It's an incalculable loss to the world.

Love and solidarity to those also grappling with this. 💜
Our beloved Alice Wong has joined the ancestors. It was one of the great honors of my life to call Alice my friend, co-author & co-conspirator. She was a true genius, a force of nature the likes of which the world has never seen before. I love you, Alice, and am equal parts grateful and devastated

Losing Tinu last year and now Alice. I am heartbroken. There's been way too much loss in the disability community. So many people are now gone. Too many to list.

Both Tinu and Alice both helped shape the person I am today. I wouldn't be alive without their help & support.

Absolutely this.

Christian nationalism is a risk to the Rainbow community, to women - to anyone who isn’t a privileged white cis man.

NZ is moving quickly from taking selfies with some of the worst people in the world to implementing the same values and behaviour as policy - it can’t continue.

Your regular reminder that unions represent PEOPLE. They are simply the voice of the PEOPLE they represent.
Nothing more. Nothing less.
Attack them and you’re attacking the people they represent.
It’s pretty simple.
