Just a guy who did an antifascist drawing once, and used to tweet about Holiday Road. Also just a guy not actually named Nolan. I have an itchy block finger and am often in a foul mood, but I swear I’m often nice! Co-host of @MMISpodcast.bsky.social He/Him

This is literally the most sincere statement I have ever made online and ever will. I believe it to my bones and the day I stop believing it is the day I am no longer me, and I hope it’s the day I die.

We have been taught for so long (my generation especially) that the biggest sin in life is to let someone get one up on you. So what? Life isn’t a contest; the people selling you that already consider you the pawns in their game. Empathy being destroyed is the death of anything good in human culture
wolter.bsky.social
Yeah, I’m excluding obvious right wing news orgs as they make it evident to anyone paying attention. It’s the supposedly “objective” ones in the “center” that are the ones I fear more. Anyone who has bought into Fox/Sinclair/OAN is hearing what they want to. It’s the people who think they’re liberal
wolter.bsky.social
I’m glad someone did! I felt like adding it myself was a bit like holding my own lily.

I feel like Marty is maybe 5-7% cooler than Snow. But yeah he’s up there. That album is great, though!

This man is has a dire urge to inform you about free money that the Grand Ol Opry is giving away and you just need to call him so he can send you his big book of grants to apply for!

Oops meant to attach this. He had a ton of Nudie suits as well, as befitted a man if his generation and stature in the Nashville community.
Elderly Hank Snow (I’m guessing early 80s) in a bow tie and white dress jacket with black lapels and musical notes on a staff running down the sides and arms. He is in red tinted sunglasses and is holding a guitar by the neck. It’s cut off but clearly his name is inlaid on the frets.

Space concerns kept my from also working in the Lesko joke in the first skeet. Music Riddler was shorter and sweeter

I think my vote for Least Cool Country Musician that I still like to listen to has to be Hank Snow. Absolute Grand Ol’ Opry company man and stick in the mud opponent to every cool offshoot of country in his lifetime, but also a damn fine country singer.

Also, dressing like Music Riddler? Hell yeah.

Like, it’s not that reports need to be told what to say. It’s that to get to a position of prominence, you’re going to be someone who thinks like that already.

A lot of the bloom has fallen off of Chomsky over the years, but the broad strokes of the Chomsky/Herman propaganda model still hold pretty accurate, with some small modifications in practice.

If the Ford administration started a DOGE equivalent in 1975, how much of Reagan’s bullshit about the private sector being better than the government at basically anything would’ve caught on? Could it have saved the country, and most of the rest of the world, a lot of agida?
2house2fly.bsky.social
DOGE is probably the most effective pro-government campaign in existence, having demolished multiple departments claiming to be rooting out "fraud waste and abuse" and showing jack shit to justify it
besttrousers.bsky.social
It's so funny that people copy this, given that DOGE was basically the least effective domestic US policy initiative of all time.

I know that for my generation, a lot of it stems from The Baroness from G.I. Joe.

how close to a bus has andrew cuomo been in the past ten or so years of his life
kendrawrites.com
Lower income New Yorkers are more likely to ride the bus s. Also the house he used to live in before he split with Sandra Lee is worth 1.8 million dollars (third link) and had five bedrooms and six bathrooms and at 5,000 sqft meets the historical definition of a mansion
.
@ZohranKMamdani
’s “plan” provides no relief for working families who take the subway, and unnecessary benefits to wealthy New Yorkers who take the bus and can afford the fare.

I focus on working families, while
@ZohranKMamdani
the mansion boy focuses on helping the rich.

I have a habit of using a totally inflectionless medium to deliver statements that could be taken as serious (which is why I often over explain myself when I realize that)
wolter.bsky.social
A bigger reason is I’m still pissed that the Ricketts’ beloved Trump took away my world series joy like one long weekend after the fact.

A lifetime of waiting and then suddenly anything I spent on the team in 2016 was partially financing fascism.
wolter.bsky.social
I’m actively not jumping on the bandwagon this late for a few reasons, not the least of which is my superstition that if I start watching I will jinx it and upset friends .

I am a materialist atheist who does not believe in the supernatural, but I still won’t jinx it.

It is not enough to say "The readers will know it's probably not true." Not all of them! A lot of people still think what the government says is true, full stop. And it will still be used by fascists, screenshot, pointed at etc. If you can't verify it yourself, don't publish it.

If we had been able to verify the claims independently, maybe then we would have reported it, to say "This is true" or, more likely, "This is not true." But since ICE doesn't share any information about is flight operations -- just like everything else! -- we had no way to verify.

Exactly. In my last story for Rolling Stone, DHS gave me a statement making claims about passengers on an ICE flight, and editors and I agreed not to publish the claims, because they are liars.

From @gregsargent.bsky.social's interview with Gov. Pritzker:
newrepublic.com/article/2016...
Governor Pritzker: Absolutely false. Although I must say, you know, whenever the ICE and CBP agents say something, they put out a release or, you know, you've got Stephen Miller talking about it, they are lying.

I mean, there are several times now where it's just obvious they're lying. You know the story of the man, Silverio, who was shot and killed on a street in Chicago. They claimed that he had dragged an officer and that the officer was seriously injured. Look, we don't know all the details. They don't wear body cams and share any of the information with us. They just sort put a release out later about what happened.

when your government is more conservative than the Vatican then you've got a big fucking problem

especially when you're meant to have just voted them out

It's not so much that people are copying DOGE, it's that DOGE was copying every terminally-venture-capitaled tech and media corporation that had just been the victim of a buyout.

News: Bari Weiss just sent a memo to staffers at CBS News asking them to produce a memo explaining "how you spend your working hours—and ideally, what you've made (or are making) that you're most proud of."

One CBS News staffer puts it like this to me: "We just got Elon Musked."
