This type of temporary housing was widespread during the post-WWII housing shortage, which is also why many us cities’ peak population was in the 1950 census
[February 4th, 1946] Evanston authorized a housing supervisor and more quonset huts for returning veterans and families due to a shortage. Northwestern University can build unlimited temporary huts on campus. The council also approved attic apartment conversions and adopted a record $2.28M budget.

For years this building was next to my cousin Paul’s house, until a developer bought the latter a few years ago and tore it down. I would have thought the pictured building was late 80s or early 90s
