Hi to all the new folks! My spouse and I, along with our children, live in rural Virginia where we raise goats, rabbits, & chickens (& sometimes hogs) as well as most of our own produce to provide our family with clean food while minimizing our impact on the earth. #SmallFarmLife

Frozen garlic 🌱

Chickens aren't quite sure what to think of the snow, this one cockerel seems to be regretting his decision to fly out first 🌨️ #SmallFarmLife
A bunch of chickens apprehensive about coming out of their coop with snow on the ground outside. It may snow overnight but I'm still enjoying my sweet peppers (sliced and frozen) and chili peppers (sliced and pickled) from last summer's garden 🌱🍽️🫑🌶️🍕

Building software pays the bills, but building physical things is way more fun. This was an old smokehouse about 140 years ago, used to be our freezer shed, and soon will be my office. Nothing is square, straight, level, or plumb but dammit this is gonna look nice 😅
The inside of a shed being renovated. Looking from the rear left corner, 2 walls are covered with wood shiplap boards. There's a window in the front wall shimmed so it's level and plumb. An A-frame extension ladder, partial bag of insulation, floor lamp, air compressor with pneumatic nailer attached to it, a jigsaw, ceiling outlet box, ans multiple scrap planks of wood are all on the subfloor with a red level leaning up against the window. The rafters are exposed, ceiling has not been insulated yet, and there's an electric wire hanging over the rafters (capped for safety!)

Slow cooked rabbit make an excellent filling for tacos, and using rabbit stock to cook the rice and beans adds that extra deliciousness. Tastes like chicken (but better!) #SmallFarmLife 🍽️

Black eyed peas in a Dutch oven cooked with a ham bone (with some meat still attached) and chopped onions and garlic Kale cooked down in some bacon fat and rabbit stock I'm a stainless steel pot 2 pork tenderloins on a gas grill, the outsides of each are browned with some grill marks Black plate on a bamboo table, plate has slices of grilled pork tenderloin, mound of cooked kale, and a helping of black eyed peas.
