Hi to all the new folks! My spouse and I, along with our children, live in rural Virginia where we raise goats, rabbits, & chickens (& sometimes hogs) as well as most of our own produce to provide our family with clean food while minimizing our impact on the earth. #SmallFarmLife
Black and white nubian billy goat with floppy ears standing in some hay and staring at the camera with his rectangular pupils. A retaining wall made of cinder blocks is to his left, and you can sort of see the torso of a black kiko nanny goat behind him.

Hell yeah! That thing is massive! We've still got a couple of weeks before ours are ready.

Not sure I can do "proper" but I can get close!

There's a storm bearing down and not enough room for all the goats in the barn so we had to put one in the fridge 😅 #SmallFarmLife

(There actually was room but this guy was ready to go anyway)

Inside of a refrigerator - top shelf has buckets of feta on either side with some pickled peppers in between. Middle shelf has freshly harvested goat legs and loin. Bottom shelf has fresh goat ribs still connected to the neck. Heck yeah, I can't stand food waste! Plenty of good uses for it even if past its prime for human consumption.

I used to have a '97 Blazer, pretty similar other than the body to your '95 s-10, I feel ya on the rear drums. I loved that old Blazer. Sold it and bought a Subaru just before child #2 was born in 2014.

The main brakes on this truck are disk on all 4 wheels thank goodness, so it's pretty easy to swap them out, but the parking brake was a bit of a bear. Haven't had to deal with drum breaks in a couple decades. $75 and an hour of my time, better than $500+ plus a tow from a shop!

Yay now I can use my truck again. The little civic coupe is great but it can't tow or haul worth shit 😅
Driver side of the rear axle of a truck with the wheel, brakes, and rotors removed. A freshly installed parking brake sits behind the wheel studs, clean springs holding things together. The brake caliber rests on the leaf springs further under the truck.

Yeah we would challenge our friends to freeze their food waste for a week and we'd come pick it up and they were quite surprised at how much they wasted just on a family level. Restaurant waste is a whole other level.

So good! And of course the rendered fat adds that extra flavor when sauteing veggies, or making a quiche crust, corn bread, frying eggs, whatever.

Hogs eat a lot of food, humans waste a lot of food, figured why not try to source as much wasted food as possible to cut feed costs and fill my freezers with delicious pork!

This mangalitsa bacon came from hogs raised primarily on free food - spent grain from a local brewery, discarded fruits & veggies from local grocery stores & farm stands, dried fruits & nuts from a wholesale distributor, peanut skins from a local plant. Waste not. 🍽️🐖🥓 #SmallFarmLife

Adds an extra layer of fun to torching weeds...

It works, sort of... But I always feel like I'm about to take a trip to the emergency room whenever I hook it up to the propane 🙃

I have one and I hate it. Piece of shit cheapo unit I bought 8 years ago at Harbor Freight. I don't even know the brand of it.
wpierce.bsky.social
Yes! They're great as cut flowers too, and then after a few days you can just harvest the seeds right off the kitchen table 😅

Once again, the bees are absolutely loving the coxcombs we planted. I love them all - the pointy ones, the flat ones, and especially the brainy looking ones🌱🐝
Crinkly, brainy looking yellow coxcomb with some pink ones and pale yellow ones nearby I don't know what color this is. Pink? Peach? Fuchsia? It's a coxcomb with some pointy bits and a flat flower, a bumblebee is getting some good pollen from the flat flower. Pointy coxcomb in a sea of other coxcombs with a bumblebee collecting pollen

As soon as I walked into the barn to snap a photo of him he thought it was time for pets. So of course I had to oblige. #SmallFarmLife

I kinda want the Jays to win the World Series just so our current administration can have a hissy fit about a Canadian team beating us at our own national pastime.

Also my team has been out of it since the beginning of the season 😅
