Hi to all the new folks! My spouse and I, along with our children, live in rural Virginia where we raise goats, rabbits, & chickens (& sometimes hogs) as well as most of our own produce to provide our family with clean food while minimizing our impact on the earth. #SmallFarmLife
I knew Mavis Staples had released a new album but I hadn't gotten around to listening to it yet. Thank you, Jason, for putting this on my radar. Excellent album, excellent review as well.

Follow Jason for some more music. I'm excited for the rest, especially if this one came in at number 10!

Listening to Ian's show while cooking dinner increases the taste factor by at least 10%. Trust me, I once was a scientist.

Casey hates the fact I use an android device, but for those of y'all who use an apple one this is a pretty cool app he built (and it's the app of the day, I guess that's a big deal...)
Americans! Take a look at the App Store before the day is up.

A fun holiday tradition where we load the kiddos up in the minivan and drive into town to see the lights! Free (minus the cost of gas...), fun, and festive.

Supposed to drop down to 17F/-8C overnight with a few inches of snow projected so we'll see if these kale plants can hold on. Hedging my bets by harvesting a bunch for dinner later just in case... 🌱

I can (and do) purchase mail order day old chicks and pay an additional 50 cents each for Marek's and coccidiosis vaccines for my birds. It's ridiculous the USDA/FDA won't make a bird flu vaccine available for commercial and backyard flocks.
To combat bird flu spread, other countries have authorized poultry vaccines. The U.S. hasn’t, amid political and economic pushback.

Without a vaccine, experts say the virus poses an escalating threat: “The minute it transmits to humans, it’s done.”

Egg producers suspect bird flu is traveling through the air. After a disastrous Midwestern outbreak early this year, we tested that theory and found that where the wind blew, the virus followed. Vacci...

Me, opening an REI box: Ah finally, new socks
Teenager: New socks? Can I have them?
Me: Didn't I just buy you like 10 pairs?
Teenager: Yeah but they don't fit anymore, I need socks.
Me: Ugh, fine. Give your "old" ones to your brother.
Preteen: I don't want his dirty ass socks!

Send help. And socks.

It's always fun replacing the oven's igniter glow bar 4 days before the busiest cooking day of the year 😅

At least I was able to vacuum up a bunch of dusty cobwebs behind the oven, and also found an offset spatula I've been missing for over a year! 🍽️

The economy was in the shitter, I was making pennies as a middle school math teacher, a college buddy was working for a small company writing Silverlight code and got me an interview. Never set out to be a software developer but it pays the bills and provides healthcare for the fam.
What’s the lore behind choosing your career path ?

The English language is amazing. So many different dialects and pronunciations but for the most part we can understand each other (and also give each other a healthy shit-talking about saying things wrong).

The correct answer is 1. No time for extra syllables...
