Nobody lets Fox cook if they can help it. She burns everything.

When possible, they eat at inns.

Otherwise, Av'ry mostly does the cooking. He is competent, as cooking and chemistry have a lot in common, though he isn't especially creative about it, or bold with flavors.🧵
#DecemberWorldbuilders, what food-related chores do your characters do? Are any of them farmers, fishers, cooks, gatherers? Do they do the bare minimum they need while on an adventure? Or do they have other people to cook for them?

#DecemberWorldbuilders #ChroniclesOfTheRealms 16. My MCs are all spoiled brats—Nitara couldn't fry an egg to save her life, Askaly only knows how to make sweets, Mileena is a princess, Sareena doesn't need to eat (but does know how to hunt and cook), and Ashrah only eats souls.

However... (1/3)

#DecemberWorldbuilders - Feeding the Bronzegate restoration project is no mean feat. The deal that was struck was that the Crown would provide the labor and pay, and the Lady Paramount would provide lodging and food. (1/3)

Ships don't have weather, but they have an environment that must be maintained to keep everyone from dying haha. Thus chores are super important. Tending the aquaponic gardens, maintaining the water/air filtration systems, power relays and electronics etc etc etc. (1/2)

It depends on the campus, I suppose. The South Library is located in a valley that regularly floods, so dike and canal maintenance before the rainy season is important

West Library has a strong smoked foods culture so salmon season is a big time for them too!

On worlds like Zoridian VIc, where the atmosphere is artificially generated, some of the most important jobs involve the environment. Maintaining the atmosphere generators is of incredible importance. They need to be in sync and balanced, or everyone might die.

For my people, they are locked inside a pressurised metal can, so mostly it's maintenance. Making sure the plumbing keeps working, cleaning up mess and making sure that things needed in an emergency are available and working. Their are testing schedules for gear and such.

#DecemberWorldbuilders #ChroniclesOfTheRealms 15. Shovelling snow is pretty important in Orasan, and while Nitara always had servants to do it for her, she and Askaly enjoy doing at least some of the work: it's a fun little mother-daughter moment!

#DecemberWorldbuilders 15: Chores

Dorilian keeps track of and herds an empire, so his chores are difficult to describe. A lot of signing orders.

Hans listens to complaining Khelds (who expect him to fix their problems) every day.

All of them right now are dealing with snow!

#DecemberWorldbuilders - A bit of a stretch answer today because while things like the shoveling of snow certainly do happen in Westeros, there's a more interesting environmental challenge taking place in my narrative. The Stormlands are well-named. The damp must be addressed at Bronzegate.

I'm fascinated by all things basal & primitive, things that don't fit neatly into the general classification of things. If you live where horsetail is common, no biggie. But they don't occur where I live and I found some at the local shop. A window into the Devonian. ❤️

#DecemberWorldbuilders - Westeros is the kind of place where some folk think it's bad luck to name a baby before they're two and where reaching your factory-max age setting is statistically VERY unlikely, so it lacks any sort of formalized institutions and everything is handled by immediate family.

On Maris, surnames are derived from the paternal line, with endings to denote gender.

The practice helps trace a person's lineage back to the original settler from Sol.

#DecemberWorldbuilders 13: Family Symbology

Dorilian Sordaneon is practically a walking symbol. His name represents a god. He wears the ring shown below, called the Rill Stone, which symbolizes that god.

Dorilian's family flag has a silver eagle in flight, symbolizing motion.

Family names and legacies are important in Esrasean society.

The surname that is taken by a married couple, and given to their children, is usually negotiated before the marriage.

Wealth, power, and social capital are compared, and the "winner" retains their name. 🧵

1/6 - In Midgrim, really only those of the Estates have surnames which tend to be tied to the Estate itself in some way (i.e. Luke from Luke Dwell Estates, Aiden from Aiden Estates) which are then passed down from the father. Surnames often change for women upon marriage.

#DecemberWorldbuilders - It's Westeros, yo! 😅 The whole thing is basically family names, crests, sigils, house words, and legacies stitched together with bloodshed and irresponsibly copious flagons of wine. In my story, one house in particular is in flux regarding the above. (1/5)
