Hello world! I’m a huge Mayor Wu stan who thinks she’s one of the great progressive leaders in America right now.
Monkey paw, you pressed reset and now Roy Cooper isn’t running either and Brian Kemp is.
Obviously not one currently in the race but another candidate — maybe a staffer of his or something.
I think there’s some people getting behind Mills but plenty of others thinking he should address it and fight on, or drop out and endorse a different challenger.
I don’t think I agree? I think they know it matters, which is why people are so frustrated by this. Yeah, Platner in a vacuum is the ideal candidate which is why it sucks that he’s laughing off his Nazi tattoo.
I’m not either but it’s also October and the primary is in June.
Every friend group has the
- reformed Reddit guy with a Nazi tattoo
- 78 year old woman
- twink who pays people to text you constantly
- microbrewer
Where is Fecteau on the filibuster?

Why can’t we just have Platner but without the tattoos and the Reddit threads 😭😭😭😭

this also drives me insane, this idea that it is the most normal thing in the world for a young (white) man to have a nazi curious phase. it isn’t!
Yes but I was on the subway and it was loud so admittedly I could’ve missed something lol
We’ll see. I know it’s 2025 and nothing can end a political career anymore, but man. I found it to be pretty disappointing.
And again, I don’t think he is a racist or a Nazi. But when asked about his comment about Black people not tipping he didn’t say he’s changed; he said he made that comment because he wanted to know why Black people don’t tip, and then laughed off his Nazi tattoo. It’s just bad instinct.
I mean, you could definitely shift to hold more sympathy for cops and white people while still hating Black people/being a Nazi. Sumpathy for poor whites and not others + hate for big government except when its cops are quintessentially MAGA lol
It was his campaign’s choice to address his Nazi tattoo with a funny video of him dancing.
Agreed! Which is why I wish Platner was taking this more seriously! He is our best shot at getting a true left wing politician in a critical senate seat and until last week was probably our best shot at beating Collins.
Fair, but his team seemed to be the one deciding to present it as a funny video.
Again, not saying he is hateful, but I think he needs to take a more serious stance on the tattoo (and his comment about Black people tipping, which he said was a legitimate curiosity). I don’t blame anyone who would vote for a different candidate over this.
That’s fair and I think I agree that he’s not hateful. I believe his story too. I wish he more forcefully denounced what I think is the most legit concern people have raised about him. Worth noting that he only said he’d changed in the context of his Reddit comments about cops and rural white people
I’d feel a lot differently about the answer if it just included, like, one more sentence that was something like “I didn’t know at the time what it meant, I thought it was a cool symbol, and now I know and I obviously don’t agree with it.” But it doesn’t, and that’s my issue with it.
I don’t know, I think if you have a Nazi tattoo you have to take that allegation pretty seriously. Trying to diffuse it by showing the tattoo in a video of you doing a drunk serenade at a wedding & saying “no one has ever called me a Nazi, how can I be a Nazi and a commie? 😅” feels too cute by half.
He’s clearly not a Nazi - this might be an example of horseshoe theory where he used to be, or thought it was funny at the time.

But his answer to the question is bad & frankly disrespectful to people rightfully now questioning him.
The tattoo is of a pretty prominent Nazi symbol, one that’s not used in other contexts (the totenkopf).

You can say that it could be just a mistake/that he didn’t know, but… that’s not what he says in the interview. He just kinda says he’s not a Nazi & anyone who suggests otherwise is dishonest.
I think this goes for all political philosophies, though. I would guess these screwups happen to populists more often because they are less experienced and less likely to vet candidates. Plus people like Platner don’t see themselves in politics and thus don’t carefully conduct their online presence.
The fact that people are already spinning this into an indictment on left populism is all the more reason for him to drop out.
Also from a “moving the Overton window” perspective, Platner can’t be a national figure because a lot of libs and centrists are just going to reject what he says out of turn because they think he’s a Nazi.
