really really good anthropological exploration of akihabara's history. i had a general sense of "it used to be the computer zone, it became the anime zone, then corpos moved in and ruined it" and that's not wrong exactly but there is so, so much detail and competing pressures i had no idea about

Most of the footage (90-ish%) is taken on my own, so if there's any hiccups, my apologies! I'm still learning! This video is a discussion of Patrick Galbraith...

everyone quotes the part of ur-fascism about saying your enemy is both strong and weak, but i read it recently and found this part striking. especially now, as the american people are out at these massive protests while, simultaneously, the regime says they are doing what "The American People" want
i have a vivid memory of reading sankara's wikipedia article and going "wow all this stuff sounds amazing" and then getting to the part where the cia helped a coup that killed him and realizing "oh this is going to be at the bottom of every article of this kind of guy i ever read"
One of Africa’s greatest sons Thomas Sankara

Here’s a summary of Thomas Sankara’s achievements in his short 4 years in power in Burkina Faso before being overthrown in a French & CIA-backed coup:
he replied to a daily beast article headlined "White People Aren’t as Racist or Stupid as Trump Thinks" with "Living in white rural America, I’m afraid to tell you they actually are." which seems to be pretty misrepresented by the headline here

yeah it's a whole real thing now! and mostly one guy doing a ton of the work which really would take ages. they talk so fast that it feels like a lot of the constraint is reducing the runtime and thus the amount of (detailed, evocative) animation required
it's such a cheat code for compelling dialogue i'm amazed it's not in everything!

Over 40% of corn grown in Indiana is used to make ethanol that cars burn. One acre of corn yields about 16,500 vehicle-miles per year of ethanol, which sounds high until you realize that one acre of solar yields about 2,700,000 vehicle-miles per year: 16,000% more driving for a given plot of land.
i think calculators are cool because you can make a thing that does simple 1-digit addition on a little breadboard and know exactly how and why it all works. and you can put in 01 and 01 and see 10 come out the other side and pog about how you personally tricked rocks into thinking
imagining a world where Bourgeoisie is treated like it's a group with leaders, card-carrying members, and shadowy funding. we arrested the girlfriend of the founder of Bourgeoisie and we're tracking planned austerity attacks on our cities
you'd think a prominent news outlet like the New York Times might mention that "antifa" isn't an actual organization in a long story about antifa, but nope!

and the subhead helps props up a false claim this professor was up to something seedy as something up for debate

"To become mature is to become kind" is actually beautiful.
Makoto Yukimura was worried that Vinland Saga's farming arc and "I have no enemies" moment was a gamble that readers wouldn't like. I told him about the J. Cole meme from the Kendrick Lamar and Drake rap beef. This is how he reacted.
