Love ❤️ this section of the Blackrock greenway & the sweep down to the Marina. Frosty morning & a bunch of 🧍‍♀️🧍🧍‍♂️ on 🚲 going to work & school safely away from 🚗🚙. Getting a bit of fresh air & exercise. It's about 0°C/32°F at the time. We get almost everywhere within 15 mins because of this route.

10 yrs post 1st pass. then every 5yrs, and then over 60 years old every 2nd year. over 60's don't have to pay for the test. and make the examiners harsh. and limit retakes to 2.

What if you had to take your drivers test at least every 10 years?

A lot changes over time. Including knowledge/memory of the road rules, driver skills and ability, and the size and deadliness of vehicles.

My partner's letter in today's Clare Champion. I'm very proud of her. Catherine Connolly's campaign is giving hope to people who have felt disenfranchised for so long. #spéirgorm ##Áras2025
Young people do have a future in Ireland

I’m not a very political person.

That’s a strange thing to admit as someone with two degrees in politics, but whatever enthusiasm I had for political engagement was quickly snuffed out as I graduated into an Ireland of austerity and dwindling opportunities. I knew change was needed and I was excited to vote for it, but time and again I was shown that change wasn’t possible. I voted to elect Labour - I got Fine Gael. I voted to elect the Greens - I got Fine Gael and Fianna Fáil. If I just stayed home, I still got Fine Gael and Fianna Fáil.

Time after time, Ireland’s youth begged for changes that would give us some hope for the future, but every time we were told that our lives mattered less than rising house prices. It was obvious there was no future for me in Ireland, so I took the same path as so many others before me and sought a better life in Australia. I had no intention of coming back. Ireland had turned her back on me long before I turned my back on her.

Covid forced me back home and I wasn’t happy about it. I met someone when I returned and we’ve done our best to build a life here, but always with one foot out the door. Melbourne has never stopped calling to me.

On September 22nd, my partner happened to be watching Catherine Connolly’s campaign launch and sitting beside him I felt something stir that I thought was long gone - hope. Catherine Connolly and the people she shared that stage with shared a vision for Ireland’s future that had a place for me in it. I heard Holly Cairns express that the presidency can be a role that highlights who we want to be, not just accepting the shortcomings of who we are right now. I heard Mary Lou McDonald speak of an Ireland where the aspirations and wellbeing of the people come first. I heard Paul Murphy reassure us that there is indeed hope that the 100 year rule of Fine Fáil and Fine Gael can be ended. Finally, when Catherine herself spoke, I saw why each of these le… A photo of 4 women and a man canvassing for Catherine Connolly. She might pinch your ball or hop on your bike, but she’ll also speak out when required.
There has never been a more important time to elect a President who will be independent of Government.

With leaf fall well underway & twigs/branches from storm damage lying near the edge of the road it’s time to remind drivers that bike users will be taking the lanes.
This is national #roadsafety week but our road safety agencies are silent on this hazard.

Cycle on a pavement: get grief. Cycle on the road: get grief. Cycle in a shared-use space: get grief. Cycle on a *checks notes* National Cycle Route: get grief.

Cycle like a ninja: get grief. Use your voice: how dare you. Use your bell: also, how dare you.

You. Just. Can't. Win.

There are two candidates available to us in this election. It's an undeniable fact that one of them will better represent our most vulnerable citizens. I don't even need to say who it is. It's a small thing we can do to at least make these people feel like we haven't abandoned them. Vote. Please.

An adult driver angry at a child they hit with their car.

Our car culture summed up in one video.

Police in Airdrie, Alberta (just north of Calgary) say this driver hit a 17-year-old girl in a marked crosswalk, got out of the vehicle, and appeared to get upset at the teenager before driving away.

They released this video and are now trying to identify the driver.

That's definitely a tiny spider who plays the drums has set up home in your bottom bracket. Alternatively it's your saddle is moving slightly when pedalling. Big money's on the tiny spider tho. 😚

Another #MGIF motorist who is oblivious to line markings on the streets. If I accidentally strayed my car into the advance bike box I wouldn't then keep creeping the car forward to intimidate the VRU that the line markings are there to protect. NOTE THEY DO IT AT BOTH LIGHTS SO NOT AN ACCIDENT.

The Basic Income for the Arts Scheme is €325 a week, similar to what they gave out during the pandemic. This is how much they've deemed one needs in order to live in Ireland. So why is disability benefit only €244? Why are disabled and sick people expected to live so far below the poverty line?

A thought occurred while 🚲 in the rain on Friday. This 💭 occurred just after a motorist, with coffee aloft in hand while driving hit a large puddle - splashing me.
Has anybody done an experiment if you get wetter while cycling or walking given same conditions - 💨🍃, 💧🌧️,📍, dest. & dickheads in cars?
